Alpa Corral is known for its clear water and sandy beaches, which attract visitors from all over Argentina during the summer months. Here’s how to plan your trip around the interests that actually bring you to Alpa Corral.

River Landscapes and Notable Places

At the RĂo Las Barrancas swimming area, a small dam creates a deeper swimming area as well as shallower water zones for children. El CajĂłn is a place to cool off and take in the surroundings. El Talita combines natural swimming pools with beautiful views. At La Olla, spring water cascades down the mountainside toward the river. El Codito is a bend in the river with natural pools. Cerro Blanco reaches 1,138 meters above sea level.

The mountain settlement of Unión de los Ríos is near Alpa Corral. Its name refers to the confluence of the Moras and Talita rivers. Near the suspension bridge, a lookout offers views of the swimming area and river. A self-guided tour introduces visitors to Alpa Corral’s native plants.

Nature Trails and Activities

Alpa Corral has several nature trails and circular routes. Activities include trekking, hiking, zip-lining, fly fishing, birdwatching and photography; cycling and horseback riding are also options. A cycling route is one of the town’s nature and architecture attractions, as is the paseo Quebrada del Sol.

The Los Pinares trail starts at the Vado, passes through a pine forest and ends at the RĂo Talita. Birdwatching and photo safaris are available along the route. It combines a clearly described route with activities along the way.

A 2,827-meter route starts at the Centro de Informes, crosses the suspension bridge and passes the Mirador de Alpa Corral and El Cajón before reaching the Observatorio Panorámico la Villa. The lookout near the suspension bridge also offers views of the swimming area and river.

Another route leads from Balneario Sauces Colorados along the rocky banks of the Río Barrancas to the Virgen de Lourdes. It then follows the riverfront promenade to the Tres Marías, a triple stream waterfall. Hiking shoes, a cap and insect repellent are recommended for this route. When planning, compare the routes’ described destinations and landscapes rather than assuming a walking time or difficulty level.

Culture, Events and Getting There

Alpa Corral’s cultural venues include the Centro Cultural and the Museo Provincial. The calendar also features recurring events: the Fiesta de las Comidas Artesanales takes place in November, El Festival de Invierno in July, and Carnaval del Humor y la Familia in summer. If an event is a key reason for your trip, check the dates for the relevant edition in advance.
