In Corrientes, the banks of the Paraná meet historic buildings and cultural events. When planning your trip, you can choose from different focuses: a boat trip on the river, a visit to churches and museums, or a stay during the swimming season and festival period.

On the Paraná: Waterfront, Boat and Beach

The Costanera Gral. San Martín runs for 2,500 metres along the riverfront in Corrientes. In 2008, the Costanera Juan Pablo II extended the waterfront promenade by 900 metres. These two named sections give you a specific point of reference for planning activities around the riverfront.

On the Paseo por El Río, you travel along the Paraná and can view Corrientes and its varied architectural styles from the water. The paseo also includes hourly kayak rentals at Arazaty Beach. At the beaches in Corrientes, swimming areas are open from October through the end of April, a period of seven months. Leisure, sports, music and dance activities take place there.

Churches, Architectural History and Culture

The Circuito Histórico Religioso covers the seven churches of greatest historical significance in Corrientes. About two hours are set aside for the tour, with a 15-minute stop planned at each church. This gives you a rough idea of how much time to allow for this activity, without treating the individual churches as a single sightseeing location.

The historic Casa Martínez at Fray José de la Quintana 901 was built on October 11, 1782, and is considered the city's oldest secular building. The Museo Arqueológico y Antropológico is housed in the building. Another historic site on the Costanera is Casa Ferro: the Centro de Interpretación Casa Iberá invites residents and visitors to discover the province's natural, cultural and historical wealth through educational, recreational and interactive experiences.

In 1991, the capital of Corrientes Province was given the designation “Corrientes, Ciudad de los Murales.” The name refers to a cultural identity that offers a distinct theme to explore during your stay, alongside the historic churches and buildings.

Festivals Throughout the Year

The traditional Fiesta de San Baltasar, featuring Candombe and Charanda, takes place in Parque Camba Cuá on January 6. The Fiesta Nacional del Chamamé is celebrated in Corrientes every January. January also falls within the period when the beaches' swimming areas are open. This means different reasons to travel come together in that month; check the relevant year's schedule for specific festival dates.

In the broader destination of Capital

The broader destination of Capital also offers additional nature and cultural attractions. The Reserva Natural Municipal Santa Catalina protects 275 hectares of native riparian forest. Free guided tours lasting around two hours are offered there on designated trails with specialized guides. Check the current participation requirements before your visit.

Exhibitions and art displays are held throughout the year at the Sala Cultural Adolfo Mors in Parque Camba Cuá. The Museo Histórico de Vías Navegables displays more than 700 objects related to naval history, including historical photographs, navigation instruments and models. The Museo de Artesanías Tradicionales showcases handicrafts made from leather, wood, plant fibres and regional textiles.

Carnival in the broader destination of Capital includes parades at the Corsódromo “Nolo Alías,” which has a stated capacity of 30,000 people. The Comparsa performances combine theatrical staging, choreography and music. Carnaval Correntino developed in two forms: Carnaval de los Barrios and Carnaval de las comparsas. These broader themes complement the local experiences in Corrientes without equating them with the city's waterfront and cultural offerings.
