Guaymallén Department: Culture, History and Wine
Accommodation in Guaymallén Department
Guaymallén Department brings together historic sites in the area where it was founded, cultural attractions, and a strong wine and vegetable-growing industry.
Historic Sites and Local Culture
The founding area of Guaymallén is home to both the Monumento al Cancionero Cuyano by artist Elio Ortiz and the Casa Museo Molina. These two places offer different ways to explore the department’s historical heritage: one is a monument, the other a house designated as a museum. The 2025 edition of the municipal program “Recorridos con historia” offered guided walks to historic and heritage sites in Guaymallén.
Another format was “Patios de Guaymallén”: the 2023 edition was a free open-air music and dance program that visited different places in the department. This offered two different ways to experience Guaymallén: guided walks and a traveling cultural program. These editions took place in past years; check the dates before your trip if you plan to include a program like this.
The Espacio Cultural Julio Le Parc is also one of Guaymallén’s cultural venues. In 2023, it offered a literary program for a wide audience. A 2026 municipal route report names the Espacio Cultural Julio Le Parc, alongside the old railway station, as a starting point for a Bicitour. In the programs described, the cultural venue is therefore associated with both literature and a cycling format.
Explore Guaymallén by Bike
A municipal tourism report described the Bicitour program in 2024 as a cycling format showcasing the department’s tourist and cultural attractions. One Bicitour passed through various districts and ended at a winery with a wine tasting. The program therefore included not only a ride to places of interest, but also a culinary finale. The route and endpoint refer to the tours described; they are not an indication of current dates. If you would like to plan a Bicitour, check what is currently available in advance.
Wine, Tastings and Local Produce
Several wineries in Guaymallén are open to visitors. There, visitors can learn about the winemaking process and take part in tastings. Which wineries are participating and what visits are available may change, so check the specific offerings you intend to include in your plans in advance.
Wine has also featured in municipal programs. “De la Bodega a tu Resto” was a series of tastings at different restaurants in the department, intended to promote Guaymallén’s dining scene and wineries. Ten editions took place in 2024. The historic program “El camino de las burbujas” featured weekly tastings with changing themes at various squares and green spaces. Check current dates before including a tasting in your travel plans.
Guaymallén is also an important vegetable-growing area: it leads the Cuyo region in vegetable and horticultural production and is part of Argentina’s second-largest green belt. A municipal visitor circuit took participants to Finca El Sauce in the district of the same name, a farm producing gourmet vegetables using hydroponic cultivation. Finca El Sauce offers an agricultural perspective alongside wine; the visit was part of a past edition of the “Burbujas y Sabores” tour program.
