Museums, Architecture and History
Iglesia Catedral was declared a National Historic Monument in 1953. In the city center is Centro Cultural del Bicentenario, a museum complex with Museo Histórico “Dr. Orestes Di Lullo”, Museo de Bellas Artes “Ramón Gómez Cornet”, and Museo de Ciencias Antropológicas y Naturales “Emilio y Duncan Wagner”.
The collections of Museo de Ciencias Antropológicas y Naturales include archaeological, anthropological, ethnographic, paleontological, botanical, zoological, and mineralogical holdings. Museo de la Celda Capilla de San Francisco Solano contains religious art from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. Two further historical perspectives are offered by Teatro 25 de Mayo, a building inaugurated in 1910 in the Neoclassical style, and Casa Argañaraz Alcorta, with its chronological tour through the history of Santiago del Estero.
Folklore, Handicrafts, and Day Planning
Mercado Artesanal Municipal was established to preserve, promote, and enhance the province’s craft traditions, as well as connect local artisans with the community and visitors.
