Discover Pitalito
Accommodation in Pitalito
Pitalito offers a variety of reasons to visit: coffee growing and tastings, art in public spaces, and natural attractions in the municipality. The Parque Principal José Hilario López is in the urban area; Laguna de Guaitipán, Cascada El Silencio, Reserva Natural Pompeya, and the coffee attractions are located within the municipality. When planning, you can distinguish between urban experiences and places in the municipality.
Coffee: cultivation, tours and tastings
At Herrera CafĂ©, you can walk through coffee-growing areas, learn about different bean varieties and find out more about how they are produced; a tasting is also included. Finca Villa SofĂa offers guided tours around the farm, explaining coffee cultivation from sowing to harvest, followed by a tasting of freshly produced farm coffee. Tours at Mirador ParaĂso del CafĂ© also take you through growing areas and explain the process from sowing to harvest; they also include a tasting of regional coffee varieties.
The three coffee experiences can be distinguished by their focus. Herrera CafĂ© combines a walk through growing areas with insights into bean varieties and their production. Villa SofĂa and Mirador ParaĂso del CafĂ© both offer guided looks at several stages of cultivation; at Villa SofĂa, the coffee you taste is freshly produced on the farm, while at the viewpoint, you can sample regional varieties.
The coffee attractions are located within the municipality; getting there from Pitalito takes you into the countryside. When planning, you can therefore consider both the focus of the coffee experience and the rural nature of the journey.
Street art and the main square
The Museo de Arte Vial de Pitalito features 30 art panels along public roads. They are intended to introduce residents and tourists to visual art and the region’s cultural expression. The project thus focuses on both visual art and its connection to regional culture.
The Parque Principal José Hilario López is in the urban area. Trees and palm trees provide shade there during the day and are illuminated at night; you can also see street performers. Unlike the art panels of the Museo de Arte Vial, performances by street artists are also part of what you may experience in the square. The two art experiences therefore differ: permanent panels along public roads on the one hand, and street performers in the square on the other.
Waterfall, lagoon and birdlife
Laguna de Guaitipán, within the municipality, is used for fishing and water-based recreational activities. This gives it a different natural focus from the waterfall and nature reserve: recreational activities on the water are the main attraction at the lagoon.
Cascada El Silencio in the municipality of Pitalito plunges over rocky cliffs. It is approximately 70 metres high. Its approximate height and rocky descent are two specific features of the landscape around the waterfall.
Reserva Natural Pompeya is home to about 207 bird species, including four documented migratory species. For bird enthusiasts, the total number and the migratory birds provide two different points of reference: around 207 species indicates the approximate diversity, while the four documented migratory species identify a particular group within this birdlife. This makes it possible to understand the nature experience here in terms of both species diversity and the proportion of migratory birds.
