La Isleta – Coastal Views and Fishing Traditions
Accommodation in La Isleta
La Isleta is a coastal town where fishing traditions are present throughout the community. A natural anchorage is still used by residents today. The traditional fishing technique known as “moruna” is also still practiced, although it is now connected with tourism. For travelers who value the local way of life as well as the coastal scenery, these details are a tangible part of the town’s character.
Mirador and Seascape
From the Mirador de la Isleta del Moro, you can see both the coastal village and the islet that gives it its name. Underwater meadows of Posidonia appear as dark streaks in the clear sea. The view from the lookout therefore encompasses not only the settlement but also a distinctive feature of the underwater landscape.
There are 25 parking spaces at the Mirador. Additional parking is available in town, from where the Mirador can be reached on foot. Parking availability may vary by season. If you drive to the lookout, you can take these two parking areas into account when planning your arrival.
Playa del Peñón Blanco and the Landscape
Near La Isleta del Moro, Playa del Peñón Blanco can be reached via the ALP-326. There are parking spaces for vehicles, and their availability may vary by season. The beach is also a point of interest for geology enthusiasts: the surrounding landscape is shaped by volcanic features. This geological perspective on the nearby area complements the coastal views from the Mirador, while keeping the two locations distinct.
Coastal Trails and Geological Features
The Escullos–Isleta del Moro hiking trail is a linear route. The S07 coastal trail runs between Los Escullos and La Isleta del Moro. One section features a fan-shaped geological structure formed by erosion of the surrounding mountains. Significant marine formations are also visible from the S07. They are important to life in the Mediterranean and act as carbon sinks. On land and at sea, you will encounter different geological and ecological aspects of the coastal landscape. When planning your walks, therefore, distinguish between two details: “linear” describes the route type of the Escullos–Isleta trail; Los Escullos and La Isleta del Moro are the places between which the S07 runs.
Festivals and Traditions
The traditional festivals in honor of San AgustĂn were revived in 2016; they include a cultural week. In summer, a procession in honor of the Virgen del Carmen travels through La Isleta Bay aboard a fishing boat. Residents and visitors accompany it on land and on the water. Check the festival dates before your trip if you have specific days in mind.
