If you’re looking for a hotel in Los Albaricoques, it’s worth first considering what interests you during your stay. The village is known as a Western filming location; at the same time, named hiking trails reveal different aspects of the landscape and how it has been used. The themes range from film and literature to traces of mining and agriculture, as well as views of the Mediterranean. This can help you decide which focus best suits your travel plans.

Western Films and Cultural History

Los Albaricoques is known as a Western filming location under the name “Albaricoques de Cine.” Films such as “La muerte tenía un precio” and “Por un puñado de dólares” made the village a natural film set. Local residents from the surrounding area also took part in filming during this era. Both the film titles mentioned and the participation of people from the region are therefore part of this cultural theme.

Cortijo del Fraile is located near Los Albaricoques. It is associated with the “Crimen de Níjar” of July 22, 1928, and Federico García Lorca’s play “Bodas de Sangre.” The cortijo’s traditional architecture includes a chapel, a crypt, arcaded courtyards, wells, and cisterns. The chapel and crypt are sacred spaces; the arcaded courtyards, wells, and cisterns add courtyards and water features to the picture. Historical, literary, and architectural connections thus come together at the cortijo.

The Aljibe del Cortijo El Campillo de Doña Francisca II is also located along the route from Los Albaricoques to Rodalquilar. This named place can therefore also be identified by its connection to a specific route.

Hiking Trails and Landscape

The Sendero Requena can be reached from Los Albaricoques via the ALP-824 track, which leads from there to Rodalquilar. After 4.6 km, a turn-off leads to Cortijo de Requena; the trail access is at the cortijo. Remains of mining and grain cultivation can be seen along the trail. The elevated, table-shaped summit offers views of the Mediterranean.

The Cortijo del Fraile–Montano–Hornillo hiking trail is reached from Los Albaricoques via a paved track and starts at Cortijo del Fraile. Its landscape includes mountains, agricultural plains, and natural areas, and is predominantly steppe-like. The trails therefore also differ in the landscape features described: the Sendero Requena focuses on traces of past land use and views from the summit, while the other trail takes in a sequence of mountains, plains, and steppe-like natural areas.

Cycling and Walking Route

A cycling and walking route project, listed as under construction, connects Los Albaricoques with Cortijo del Fraile and Rodalquilar. It aims to promote sustainable mobility and enhance the landscape of the natural park. Unlike the individual hiking routes, this project describes a connection between three named places and also has an explicitly landscape-related purpose.
