Sitio De Calahonda: Coast, Nature and Hotels
Accommodation in Sitio De Calahonda
In Sitio De Calahonda, coastal paths, a streamside walk, parks, golf and historic sites offer different highlights for your stay. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between these options: the Senda Litoral Mijas runs parallel to the Mediterranean along many sections, while the Sendero Arroyo Los Álamos follows the stream. Playa Calahonda - Riviera and bus connections within the urbanisation are also useful for getting your bearings locally.
Coastal Paths and Beach
The Senda Litoral Mijas is part of the Senda Litoral de Málaga project. The current section runs between La Cala de Mijas and Calahonda. Many sections of the route follow wooden boardwalks parallel to the Mediterranean. At certain points, information panels describe the area's natural features and the animal and plant species that live there. This gives the coastal path a connection to nature as well as its seaside setting.
Playa Calahonda - Riviera is easy to reach on foot, by car and by bus. If you are planning to walk the coastal path or visit the beach, check the latest information about the route and access in advance.
Stream and Green Spaces
The Sendero Arroyo Los Álamos offers a one-kilometre walk that follows the stream upstream. Birds and butterflies can be spotted there depending on the season; sightings are not guaranteed. Despite its location in a heavily urbanised area, the Arroyo Los Álamos preserves an ecosystem with great biodiversity. Trail conditions can change, so it is worth checking the latest information before your walk.
Another nature trail runs from Parque Calahonda to Avenida de los Jardines. Along the way, information signs describe the local flora and fauna. Parque España has a children's playground, an area for outdoor exercise and spacious areas for walking. The parks therefore complement the trails with further specific opportunities for exercise and spending time outdoors.
The main factor when choosing between the trails is the type of scenery: in many places, the Senda Litoral follows the Mediterranean, while the Sendero Arroyo Los Álamos follows the stream and its natural surroundings. The Arroyo route is clearly defined at one kilometre, whereas the Senda Litoral is characterised by its coastal course and wooden boardwalks along many sections.
Historic Sites and Views
The Torre de Calahonda was completed in 1575. The present-day Iglesia de San Miguel was consecrated as a church on 25 May 2003. A Romería from one settlement to another was also organised in connection with the Iglesia de San Miguel. This historic tradition adds a cultural dimension to the area's architectural landmarks.
The Ermita de Calahonda offers views of the Mediterranean. The night sky is also among the local experiences described: on moonless nights, some residents are drawn to stargazing, especially in summer. The possible highlights therefore range from coastal views and historic sites to nature observation by day or night.
Golf and Getting Around
Club de Golf La Siesta is located in the heart of Sitio De Calahonda. The course has nine holes and is par 3; it was founded in 1989. This makes golf a distinct travel interest alongside walks and sightseeing. If you plan to play, check the current booking arrangements.
Bus route M-119 is a circular route with several stops within the urbanisation. It connects Calahonda with Fuengirola and La Cala de Mijas. As routes and stops may change, check the current timetable before travelling.
