When planning your trip around Las Palomas, consider what cultural and historical topics you would like to explore and whether you want to include a beach visit. La Gallega and Molino de Llano del Moro are located in the surrounding area; Playa de la Nea lies about 2½ km to the southeast. The cultural sites involve designated heritage sites and former uses; at Molino de Cuevas Blancas, current access is also a key consideration.

Cultural Heritage and Mill History

The La Gallega archaeological zone has been designated a Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC) in the Archaeological Zone category since October 21, 2008. It is located near Las Palomas on a basalt outcrop on the right-hand side of a small ravine. Its designation and surrounding landscape provide two distinct points of reference: its classification as an archaeological zone and its prominent position on the basalt outcrop. This makes it easy to distinguish La Gallega from the historic mills when planning your trip.

Molino de Cuevas Blancas has been designated a Bien de Interés Cultural in the Historic Site category since December 18, 2007. This category differs from that of the La Gallega archaeological zone. However, there is a specific restriction on visiting: access to Molino de Cuevas Blancas is currently completely impossible. Check access conditions again before planning a visit, as they may change.

Molino de Llano del Moro is a windmill in the area around Las Palomas and remained in operation until the second quarter of the 20th century. The dates associated with these cultural sites therefore differ: the second quarter of the 20th century marks the end of the windmill’s use, while 2007 and 2008 are the designation dates for Molino de Cuevas Blancas and La Gallega. These details describe different aspects—historical use and heritage status. When exploring the sites, you can therefore consider both their respective classifications and their former functions.
