In Tegueste, hiking trails, natural landscapes and culture come together. The municipality is part of the Anaga Massif; routes also lead through the landscape and the historic centre. When planning your trip, you can consider nature experiences and local history as distinct areas of interest.

Hiking trails and the Anaga landscape

The PR-TF-12 Cruz del Carmen–Bajamar hiking trail passes through Tegueste and is officially approved by the Cabildo of Tenerife. The PR TF 12.1 trail is a branch of the PR TF 12 leading to Tegueste. The two references therefore differ: the first refers to the Cruz del Carmen–Bajamar route, the second to the branch leading to Tegueste. Check trail conditions locally before planning your hike.

The Anaga Massif, which includes Tegueste, has been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2015. Its valuable natural areas include Monteverde and laurel forest. One specific trail in Tegueste is the Camino de Los Laureles: this tree-lined path preserves older Monteverde plant species, including laurel, Mocán and Barbusano. These species give an impression of the botanical diversity that characterises the trail; checking local trail conditions is still advisable when planning your visit.

A yearly programme of guided routes is available for local residents and visitors. In addition, a weekly route runs through the historic centre of Tegueste. The offerings have different focuses: one refers to a programme of guided routes, the other to a recurring route in the town centre. If you want to plan for a specific date, check the relevant dates in advance. This will help you choose between the routes through the landscape and the route through the historic centre according to your interests.

Bus route 050 is designated for the return journey from Tegueste to the La Laguna interchange station. Check the timetable before planning your return journey, as routes and schedules may change. This is particularly useful if you want to coordinate your hike with a bus journey; the route information does not specify a particular journey time.

Culture, history and local products

In 2007, the Government of the Canary Islands designated La Librea de Tegueste a Bien de Interés Cultural (Asset of Cultural Interest) with local scope. This designation makes the tradition a clearly defined cultural theme for a stay in Tegueste. A permanently inhabited Indigenous settlement site also provides information today about the area's former inhabitants, adding another perspective on the town's history.

The Casa Los Zamorano Interpretation Centre hosts permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as a collection of objects and documents. Groups wishing to visit outside regular opening hours must make prior arrangements by phone or email on any day of the week. Confirm these visit arrangements directly with the centre before travelling. The exhibitions and collection offer different ways to explore the site: one focuses on current exhibitions, the other on the care of objects and documents.

At the Mercado del Agricultor de Tegueste, small-scale farmers, livestock breeders, craftspeople, confectioners and fishers sell their fresh products directly to consumers. The goods on offer are grown or made by the vendors themselves. The market therefore brings together agricultural and craft production with direct sales. The range of products may vary from one visit to another.

Information before your visit

The Tegueste Tourist Information Office provides up-to-date information about local and island attractions, transport, events, hiking trails and tourism providers. If your plans depend on a date, a route or a particular visit, you can ask there about these topics. Check opening hours and visitor arrangements before you arrive. This gives you several clearly distinct points of interest to consider when choosing your itinerary: landscape trails, the historic centre, exhibitions, early settlement and local produce.
