Abdet: Village Culture and Hiking Trails

Abdet combines a historic center characterized by narrow streets with local heritage and hiking destinations. The Church of San Vicente Ferrer is part of Abdet’s historic center, whose narrow streets define its character. The Trinquet de L’Abdet is also a notable part of the village’s history: dating from 1772, it is one of the oldest trinquet courts in the Comunitat Valenciana. The historic center is therefore home to both a religious building and a historic venue for pelota.

The “pilota grossa” variant of Valencian pelota is played in Abdet. Its balls are larger than a tennis ball and hand-sewn, with a core made of cloth and goatskin. These details bring the variant to life without equating it with the historic trinquet.

The annual festival calendar includes celebrations in honor of two saints. The festival in honor of San Vicente Ferrer takes place during the last week of Easter. The summer festivities in honor of the Virgen de las Dolores follow on the third weekend of August. The Circular de Mela is one of the hiking routes listed for Abdet; other hiking routes head toward Confrides and Beniardà. A challenging circular route leads from Abdet to Pla de la Casa at an altitude of 1,385 meters. A route description published in March 2025 gives a distance of 16.3 kilometers, an elevation gain of 960 meters, and an estimated duration of 6 to 7 hours. Ravines and Caves

In the Barranco del Fanalic area, the river plunges through the ravine as a waterfall during rainy periods. The waterfall therefore depends on rainfall. The Pericos Cave covers an area of more than 1,000 square meters. It features narrow passages and large galleries.

The Barranco del Sord is also among the ravines listed in the Confrides and Abdet area and is one of the most frequently visited there. The Barranco del Llop is cited as another ravine in the area. These two names add a landscape perspective shaped by ravines and their distinctive features to the views from Creueta.
