El Mojón is the northernmost point of the Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar Regional Park. Near El Mojón, Playa de El Mojón beach, on the Murcia side, borders the Regional Park. The similarly named Playa El Mojón is on the southern edge of the municipality of Pilar de la Horadada. To help you find your way along the coast, it is worth distinguishing between these beach names: they refer to different coastal locations and place each beach in a different regional setting.

Senda de Los Tarays and the coast

Senda de Los Tarays runs parallel to a freshwater canal that surrounds the salt flats and flows into the Mediterranean Sea. Visitors can spot various bird species along the route. The route is easy and takes approximately 20 minutes without breaks; if you would like to stop along the way, allow extra time for breaks. Senda de Los Tarays follows the promenade of Playa del Mojón, which runs north to the provincial boundary with Alicante.

Playa El Mojón is often used by anglers and is easily accessible on foot or by car. There is also a city bus stop nearby. If you are planning a beach visit, both the access options mentioned and the nearby bus stop are useful points of reference. The focus differs from that of Senda de Los Tarays: there, the canal, the salt flats and the opportunity to spot birds take centre stage.

Local festivals and dated activities

The local festivals can also be placed within a specific timeframe. Pilar de la Horadada’s 2026 events calendar included a dedicated festival programme for El Mojón. The fiestas were scheduled to run from Tuesday the 11th to Sunday the 16th of August 2026. The 2025 El Mojón festival programme included a procession through the streets of the town in honour of Saint San Roque, accompanied by the Unión Musical de San Pedro. This gives you both a specific timeframe for the 2026 fiestas and a concrete event from the previous year: a procession through the town with musical accompaniment.

A Hibernis Mare Nordic walking route from Las Higuericas towards El Mojón was scheduled for 24 May 2026. It was then to continue along the salt flats trail of San Pedro del Pinatar to the port of San Pedro del Pinatar. The planned route was approximately 10 kilometres long, of moderate difficulty and had an elevation gain of 30 metres. These details offer different ways to plan your route: Senda de Los Tarays is described as easy and has an approximate walking time without breaks, while the scheduled Nordic walking event included details on distance, difficulty and elevation gain.

When looking for a hotel in El Mojón, three questions can help you plan your trip: Would you like to include a short, easy route with birdwatching, visit a beach or plan your stay around a particular festival?
