When looking for a hotel for a trip to Hurchillo, you can first consider the destination in terms of two specific interests: the homologated SL-CV 139 hiking trail and local history. The landscape of Monte de Hurchillo adds a natural dimension, while a former official route linked historic sites. This helps you decide the focus of your trip before comparing specific hotel offers.

Hiking and landscape

Hurchillo has the homologated SL-CV 139 hiking trail. Following improvement works in 2025, it was positioned as an environmental, sporting and tourism resource for residents and visitors as part of the municipal initiative to promote homologated trails. If you want to focus your trip on hiking, the trail offers a clearly defined point of interest. Check the latest trail information before visiting.

Monte de Hurchillo lies south of Arneva and Hurchillo; its northern boundary roughly follows the road connecting the two settlements. At the same time, the monte is part of a series of hills forming the southern edge of the Vega del Segura on the river’s right bank. These offer two ways to orient yourself: the approximate boundary along the road between the settlements and its position on the southern edge of the Vega.

The Sierra de Hurchillo has numerous ravines and slopes, and reaches a maximum elevation of 269 metres. Aleppo pines, mastic shrubs, blackthorn and thyme grow on Monte de Hurchillo; there are also plant communities on gypsum-rich soils. The ravines and slopes describe the terrain, while the plants and soils reveal further facets of the landscape.

Birdlife on the monte includes species identified as breeding birds: the common buzzard, along with rock-dwelling birds such as the kestrel, little owl and bee-eater.

Local history and other routes

A former official guided route through Hurchillo’s history visited the village church, the home of singer Pepe Baldó and the “Los Aljibes” cultural centre. At a place known locally as “el rincón,” the route also explained Hurchillo’s irrigation system. The stops connected specific buildings and a place with the history of local water management.

Pepe Baldó was the stage name of José Baldó Javaloyes, previously known as “El Niño de Hurchillo.” He was born in 1935 in Rincón de Portillo, a pedanía of Hurchillo in Orihuela (Alicante).

The route “Conoce la Vega desde la Sierra de Hurchillo” was also scheduled for Saturday, 19 September. It was intended to showcase the landscape and natural surroundings of Orihuela.

These themes offer different perspectives: the hiking trail and landscape focus on nature, while the former guided route presents Hurchillo’s history through named stops.
