Discover Orba from different perspectives: its ceramic tradition, the history of its buildings, and a hike to its fountains and washhouses. If you’re looking for a hotel in Orba, these themes can help guide your stay planning. The Museu del Fang explores the local pottery heritage, Castillo de Orba combines history with views over fields, and the Ruta de les Fonts d’Orba offers a specific hiking option.

Ceramic History and the Casa Señorial

The Casa Señorial houses the Colección Museográfica de Alfarería del Ayuntamiento de Orba, also known as the Museu del Fang. There, visitors can learn how Orba’s craftspeople make jugs, storage vessels and other items. The permanent exhibition includes pieces from more than 40 private donations and loans. The museum preserves the pottery heritage of Orba and Orbeta and recalls the ceramic trade as a traditional occupation in the municipality since the late 17th century.

The building itself also has a history of its own: the Casa Señorial was built in the 16th century by the barons of Orba at the time. It once had several areas, including a prison, an oil mill, a wine press and stables. The oil mill and wine press point to processing, while the prison and stables add other former functions of the house. Thus, the pottery collection and the Casa Señorial’s historic uses sit side by side at the Museu del Fang.

Activities associated with the Museu del Fang include guided visits and workshops in factories. Before your trip, check whether these activities are available when you plan to visit.

Another historical landmark is the Iglesia Parroquial del Nacimiento del Señor. It was built on the site of an earlier mosque; its present-day appearance dates from renovations in the 19th and 20th centuries. Its building history thus connects an earlier religious structure with later alterations.

Castillo de Orba: Building History and Landscape

Castillo de Orba, also known as Castillo de Awraba or El Castellet, is a structure dating from the Islamic period. It was conquered in 1245 and formed part of the Baronía de Pego. The Castillo is designated a Site of Cultural Interest (Bien de Interés Cultural).

Low sections of wall and one side of the rectangular main tower are still visible among the ruins. From the Castillo, there are views over fields of citrus, almond and olive trees. Here, surviving architectural features and views of different cultivated trees come together: the Castillo connects building history with a particular perspective on the landscape.

Hiking the Ruta de les Fonts d’Orba

The Ruta de les Fonts d’Orba is an easy hiking trail. It is 4.28 km long, has 113 m of positive elevation gain and takes an estimated 1 hr 27 min. The estimated duration complements the distance and elevation details with a time guide to help you plan.

The route leads to fountains and washhouses in Orba. These include La Fonteta d’Orbeta, la font de Dalt, la font de les Raboses, la font dels Caus, la font de Xopera, and Llavador i font de Baix. This gives the trail a different focus from the Casa Señorial or the Castillo: here, fountains and washhouses are the destinations, while the two buildings offer insights into the area’s ceramic and local history.

Whether you’re mainly interested in pottery heritage, historic buildings or a walking route with named destinations, these themes offer different ways to get to know Orba during your stay. The route provides specific details on distance and estimated time, while the museum, Casa Señorial and Castillo explore the town’s ceramic and architectural history.
