Teulada: Hotels and historic townscape
Accommodation in Teulada
Teulada brings together the walled settlement of La Vila, the historic ensemble Teulada gótica amurallada and protected landscapes. This offers different focuses for planning a trip: cultural history, landscape or regional festivals. If you are looking for a hotel in Teulada, you can first consider which of these themes you would like to shape your stay.
Landscape and Townscape
The Vall de les Sorts is a protected landscape on land within the municipality of Teulada. The protected area of Les Sorts covers approximately 100 hectares. Its landscape is defined by the contrast between a valley with a flat valley floor and the rolling terrain around it. This description makes the area's varied terrain its defining feature.
In the historic town centre, La Vila represents a different kind of structure: the historic walled settlement has a regular layout adapted to the topography of its hill. The ensemble's compact form and hillside location give the town a clear historical focus. The ensemble is called Teulada gótica amurallada and is designated as an Asset of Cultural Interest (Bien de Interés Cultural, BIC) in the category of Historic Ensemble. The designation dates back to a regional decree issued in 2007.
Buildings and History
Teulada gótica amurallada was built from Tosca stone and retains original architectural features such as arches and barrel vaults. Alongside La Vila's regular layout, these architectural elements draw attention to the ensemble's construction. The Iglesia Parroquial de Santa Catalina Mártir stands in the heart of Teulada and dates from the late 16th century. It was a fortified church and offered refuge to the Moriscos. Thus, the town centre brings together a distinctive ecclesiastical history and the form of the walled settlement.
The Ecomuseo L'ALMASSERA also tells the story of rural production: it is housed in a former oil mill and wine press and is part of the Centre Ecomuseogràfic, which aims to revive traditional occupations and skills. Audiovisual projections illustrate the production process there. In this way, the site connects a former workplace with the interpretation of traditional activities.
The Centre d’estudis Vicentins is housed in the Sala de Jurats i Justícies. The façade features a sundial dating from 1639. The Sala is also a stop on the Ruta Vicentina. For exploring buildings and cultural sites, a specific façade detail and a connection to a cultural route complement each other here.
Hermitage, Routes and Festivals
The Ermita de la Font Santa lies halfway between Teulada and Moraira and is a pilgrimage site. It houses a spring which, according to local tradition, sprang forth through a saint. The tradition does not name the saint in this context. The Ermita's location and religious significance give it a distinct place in the area's cultural history.
A signposted route leads from Teulada to Benimarco. As a separate route feature, the Font de l'Horta lies along a route; it is a spring with two outlets. For hikers, the Creueta de l'Ave María is the first stop on a route. These details relate to different things: the route to Benimarco is defined by its two endpoints, while the Creueta's role as the first stop for hikers is its main feature.
The festival calendar also connects Teulada with its regional traditions. The Fiesta del Moscatel de Teulada/Moraira takes place every year in August and celebrates the region's winemaking tradition. The Fiestas Patronales de Teulada take place in April in honour of San Vicente Ferrer. Comparing the dates helps put them in context: the August festival is connected with winemaking tradition, while the April patron saint festival is dedicated to its religious occasion.
