Els Ibarsos: Hiking, Culture and Hotels
Accommodation in Els Ibarsos
For a trip to Els Ibarsos, hiking trails and local traditions provide useful points of reference. The PR-CV 348 is a circular route through hilly terrain and the town; other excursions lead to Tossal de la Cova. The annual calendar includes the Festes Patronals dels Ivarsos and the Festes de Sant Antoni, each with its own customs. You can take these into account when planning your stay, alongside the relevant hiking and event dates.
Hiking Around Els Ibarsos
The PR-CV 348 starts at Av. Castelló s/n in Els Ibarsos. This circular route has 970 metres of ascent and an equal 970 metres of descent. It passes through hilly terrain between cultivated fields to Els Ibarsos and crosses the town along the old road. The route description therefore includes both the sections between the cultivated fields and the stretch through the settlement. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
Numerous excursions also lead from Els Ibarsos, particularly on pleasant walking routes, to Tossal de la Cova. These excursions offer another way to explore the surrounding area on foot. Here too, check the conditions on the trails locally. In connection with the PR-CV 348, Serra d'en Galceran is listed as a ZEC (Zona de Especial Conservación) and an LIC (Lugar de Importancia Comunitaria). Find out about the rules for using the trails before your visit.
Festivals and Local Traditions
The Festes Patronals dels Ivarsos are held every year in May in honour of the Mare de Déu dels Desemparats. They last ten days and include activities for all age groups; the duration and programme may vary from year to year. The offering and the Mass in honour of the patron saint are among the highlights for residents. The festival programme includes bullfighting events throughout the celebrations, featuring a wide variety of breeders. As individual events may change, check the current official dates before your trip.
The Festes de Sant Antoni also feature several customs. The Sant Antoni procession is called del Farolet; lanterns are carried at its head and by some of the participants. During one procession, horses circle a bonfire, followed by pets from the town. Traditional Rotllos are also distributed in Els Ibarsos to celebrate Sant Antoni. Check the current dates and programme before your trip.
Local History and Heritage
The earliest surviving historical records of Els Ivarsos date back to 1583, when the Mas d'Els Ivarsos was established. In the Middle Ages, Els Ivarsos and the Rambla Carbonera formed an extensive rural settlement, a Masada, within the municipal area of La Serra d'en Galceran. In the 18th century, the population of the Masada grew with the construction of the Ermita dels Desemparats. These historical milestones reflect different stages in the development of the town and its rural settlement.
The Parròquia de la Mare de Déu dels Desemparats dels Ibarsos was built around 1985. It has the status of a locally significant cultural asset (Bé de Rellevància Local) under the fifth additional provision of Law 5/2007 of 9 February of the Generalitat, which amended Law 4/1998 of 11 June on Valencian cultural heritage.
Getting Around the Town
The CV-15 regional road runs just east of Els Ibarsos, almost parallel to the town; a square lies between the road and the settlement. The road connects Els Rosildos and Els Ibarsos to the north with Albocácer and to the south with Vall d'Alba. These local landmarks and road connections can help you locate the destinations mentioned when planning your trip.
