Discover Les Coves De Vinromà
Accommodation in Les Coves De Vinromà
When planning your trip to Les Coves De Vinromà, historic buildings and routes through varied landscapes are key highlights. The cultural sites range from a former mosque and churches from different periods to a fortified residence. The routes vary in their intended use, seasonal character and wayfinding. You can therefore decide whether cultural heritage, hiking or mountain biking best matches your interests.
Churches, Chapels and Historic Buildings
Construction of the Iglesia Parroquial de la Asunción began in the late 18th century to replace the former church. Its architecture combines elements of the late Baroque and academic Neoclassicism. The church also houses a collection of goldsmith work and liturgical vestments. The Iglesia Vieja de los Desamparados was originally an Arab mosque—a different historical starting point from the construction of the parish church.
The Ermita del Cristo del Calvario brings together architectural and artistic details: the chapel has an octagonal floor plan and contains five frescoes by Joaquín Oliet from 1809 to 1810. A path lined with cypress trees and marked by Stations of the Cross leads to it. The stations are housed in chapel-like structures decorated with tiles from Alcora. Here, you can take in both the route and the design of each station.
The Ermita de Sant Vicent was built in the early 17th century; the year 1614 is inscribed on the building. It stands beside the Mas dels Arcs path and the old Roman road. Its restoration led to the creation of a recreational area around the building. The Casa Fortificada de los Templarios represents another aspect of the architectural heritage: it is a fortified residence with defensive features and a pronounced military character. It is also known as La Casa del Temple; it was associated with knights of this military order and is classified as a Bien de Interés Cultural. The Portalet is the only surviving entrance to the castle.
Another cultural destination is the Museu Almirez. Housed in a three-storey building, it displays mortars used for industrial, culinary, decorative and other purposes. The different uses offer both an everyday-historical and a design perspective on the objects on display.
Routes through agricultural and riverside landscapes
The Ruta dels Garrofers is designed primarily for mountain biking, but can also be walked. It passes through landscapes shaped by carob trees. The Ruta dels Ametlers offers a different focus: it passes through agricultural landscapes with strong colour contrasts. During the flowering season in the second half of January and the first half of February, almond blossoms colour the fields; the timing may vary slightly from year to year. These two routes therefore offer different points to consider when planning: mountain biking or walking on the one hand, and seasonal blossoms on the other.
The Ruta dels Molins is about 12 kilometres long and has a low difficulty level. It runs along the San Miguel River and leads to traditional grain mills. As it is not signposted, take the lack of signage into account when navigating and check conditions before setting out. The stated length and difficulty help you assess the route; navigation on the ground needs to be planned separately.
Landscapes and other points of interest
La Morería is a plant micro-reserve by the river, where old hydraulic mills have been preserved. The Barranc de la Valltorta runs through the municipal areas of Tírig, Albocàsser and Les Coves and has been a World Heritage Site since 1998. These landscape features complement the routes and buildings with a perspective on riverside environments, plants and surviving examples of technology. When choosing a destination, you can consider whether to centre your stay more on historic buildings, a particular route or these landscape themes.
