Discover Vinaròs on the coast
Accommodation in Vinaròs
Coastal landscapes and historic sites shape Vinaròs. The city has 12 kilometres of coastline between the Sénia River and the Aiguadoliva ravine, as well as 26 beaches and coves. The seafront promenade is ideal for family walks, bike rides and watching sunsets over the coast. Vinaròs offers a range of themes to help you plan your trip: the coast, nature and the city’s history can each be explored as a separate focus.
Coast and nature trails
The Qualitur awards for the Vinaròs coastline recognise high standards in environmental quality, service management and universal accessibility. In the Sòl de Riu natural area, an interpretive trail explores the Mediterranean, traditional irrigation systems, crops and local botanical species. Information panels connect landscape themes with insights into how water and land are managed.
The Serra del Puig has been designated a municipal natural area since 2016. It is promoted for hiking, educational and interpretive routes, and various active tourism activities for responsible leisure. The area includes the Iberian settlement of Puig de la Misericordia and the local Redona de l’Ermita hiking trail. This trail offers views of Vinaròs, the Mediterranean and the plain stretching from Montsià to Peñíscola. The trails therefore offer different perspectives: Sòl de Riu explores themes through information panels, while the Redona de l’Ermita is described for its panoramic views.
Architecture and history
A striking historic building is the Iglesia Fortaleza Arciprestal de la Asunción. It is a national historic monument; its exterior has a military character, while its design is reminiscent of a Mediterranean fortified church. Its architecture thus combines two distinct aspects: the character of a church and a defensive exterior.
Casa Membrillera also brings together architectural history and insights into the local economy. The house is an 18th-century Renaissance building and houses permanent exhibitions on agriculture, trade, industry and fishing in Vinaròs. Casa Giner offers a different architectural accent: built in 1914, this Valencian Modernisme building has an elliptical corner bay window facing Plaza Parroquial.
The Ermita de San Gregorio is an 18th-century Baroque hermitage. It was designed by Pere Gonell, a monk and architect from Vinaròs. The Capilla de Santa Victoria is also Baroque and dates from the 18th century; it is annexed to the church of the San Telmo monastery. During its restoration in 2019, 18th-century trompe-l’œil paintings using perspective were discovered. The combination of architectural history and painting makes the chapel another highlight for a culture-focused visit.
Local experiences and traditions
The Carnaval de Vinaròs has been celebrated since the 14th century and has held the status of a Festival of Tourist Interest of the Valencian Community since 2007. Local fishing also shapes potential culinary experiences: guided food experiences may include taking part in a fish auction at the Lonja and municipal market. Pescaturismo activities may include guided visits to the fish exchange, fishing boats and the market. Check the programme and availability with the provider before travelling. The Gastro Festival del Langostino de Vinaròs is the most long-standing and oldest gastronomic event among those held in Vinaròs.
The Vinaròs audio-guide route offers stories adapted for children and adults, making it suitable for different age groups. Together with the nature trails, coastline and historic buildings, it provides a range of themes to guide your exploration of the city.
