Burjassot: Silos, Gardens and Natural History Museum
Accommodation in Burjassot
Burjassot can be explored through specific places to visit: Los Silos combines the history of grain storage with a striking complex, while its gardens and recreational areas offer different attractions. The Universitat de València’s Natural History Museum is another highlight. If you’re looking for a hotel in Burjassot, you can factor the places that matter to you into your stay plans.
Los Silos: Grain Storage and Stone Covers
Los Silos began with three underground grain silos built in 1573. On a nearly square, paved terrace measuring about 75 metres on each side, the hemispherical stone covers of 41 silos can be seen. Their dimensions and recurring shapes give the complex its distinctive appearance and make the space perceptible as a whole. The interior of Los Silos can be visited as part of an initiative by Burjassot’s Municipal Institute of Culture and Youth.
L’Eixereta Garden and Burjassot’s Landscape
L’Eixereta Garden lies in the north of Burjassot. It is the last remnant of the original Mediterranean forest that gave Burjassot its name. The Mediterranean lowland vegetation found there is called “Máquia” and includes mastic shrubs, aladierno shrubs and stone pines. The garden was converted into a public garden and largely retains its original vegetation. Later improvements aimed to enhance its scientific, ecological, landscape and educational value. The vegetation and the history of the name are connected here: the forest remnant links the garden’s landscape with the town’s name.
Natural History Museum on Campus
The Universitat de València’s Natural History Museum (M(UV)HN) is located on the Burjassot campus. The museum offers guided tours and workshops by appointment. Visiting arrangements may change, so check the latest options before travelling. If you’re interested in natural history, you can make the museum a focus of your itinerary alongside the green spaces.
Recreational Areas and Practical Planning
Dehesa del Castell is a recreational area with a picnic and rest area. It is open on alternate weekends. Local maintenance work may affect the facilities, so check the current opening schedule and the condition of the area before your visit. At Parque Municipal La Granja, you can take a ride on a steam train through the park. Operating days and times may change, so it’s worth checking them in advance if you plan to take a ride.
Burjassot has 11 metro and tram stations spread throughout the municipality. If you’re factoring public transport into your hotel choice, check connections to the places you want to visit and the current state of the network. This lets you plan around the places you actually want to visit, rather than relying solely on the number of stations.
