Campo De Arriba
Accommodation in Campo De Arriba
Campo de Arriba is the largest of Alpuente’s southern villages. It lies in the extensive hollow that defines the southern part of the municipality. The landscape, the Ruta de las Aldeas, and designated historical features of the village offer different starting points for your trip. The focus that matters to you may already play a role when choosing your destination and a hotel.
Hollow, mountains, and agricultural landscape
On the eastern side of the hollow are rugged, densely vegetated mountains, cut through by the Barranco del Reguero-Rambla de Arquela. To the west, the Lámpara mountain massif bounds the valley. The hollow itself is used extensively for agriculture and livestock farming. Both the use of the open terrain and the named mountain landscapes are characteristic local features. If you want to understand Campo de Arriba through its landscape, the compass directions and place names help distinguish the eastern mountain side from the western boundary.
The Ruta de las Aldeas in stages
The 45-kilometre Ruta de las Aldeas passes through Alpuente’s inhabited villages and can be completed in several stages on foot or by mountain bike. For Campo de Arriba, the route description also specifies a 3-kilometre section from Campo de Abajo to the village. The two figures refer to different distances: 45 kilometres is the length of the entire route, while 3 kilometres is the section between the two villages. This distinction is useful when comparing the full route with a single connection. The public washhouse is also listed as a place to visit on the Ruta de las Aldeas.
The village centre and Ermita de Santa Bárbara
In 2025, Campo de Arriba was designated a traditional historic centre (“Núcleo Histórico Tradicional”). The Ermita de Santa Bárbara in Campo de Arriba has partial protection (protection grade PP); the corresponding catalogue entry was published in April 2025. These designations refer to different scales: the designation applies to Campo de Arriba as a village centre, while the protection grade applies to the individual chapel. This clearly distinguishes the designation of the place from the protection status of the named building.
The public washhouse
A photographic record from March 2020 describes the public washhouse in the upper part of Campo de Arriba as covered and having two washing basins. Water from a spring with four outlets is reused at the washhouse; this information was also documented in March 2020. The washhouse is also one of the places to visit listed on the Ruta de las Aldeas. Its location, structural features, and connection with the spring each provide a distinct point of reference: to the upper part of the village, the washhouse facilities, and the reuse of water.
Planning your visit and finding a hotel
A plenary resolution by Alpuente, dated January 30, 2024, sets the second weekend in August as the date of the Santa Bárbara celebration in Campo de Arriba. If you plan to include the celebration in your trip, check the local date in advance. That way, you can first decide which of these themes matter to your trip and then choose a suitable hotel offer.
