Accommodation in Caudete De Las Fuentes
The parish church and the archaeological site of Kelin give the historic area its character; wine tastings and trails offer other ways to plan your day.
Church, traditions and local festivities
The Parish Church of the Nativity of Our Lady is a rectangular neoclassical building with an octagonal dome. Construction began in 1731, and it was consecrated in 1735. Its layout, architectural style and dome are the church’s main architectural features; the two dates place its construction history in context.
The Pascua de Monas is another way to experience local traditions. On the first and second Sundays after Easter, people go outdoors, spend the day outside and eat the traditional Mona de Pascua. The tradition combines a set time of year with spending time together outdoors and enjoying a special pastry.
Local festivities also include free open-air dances at Paseo de la Alameda. As a distinct cultural highlight, the dances complement the religious and culinary traditions.
Kelin and finds from the ancient city
The archaeological site of Kelin, also known as Los Villares, lies near Caudete de las Fuentes on a gentle hill about 800 metres high. It covers around 10 hectares. The site preserves urban structures from two Iberian phases: a Proto-Iberian phase dating to the 7th century BC and a fully Iberian phase dating from the 4th to the 2nd century BC. Comparing these periods makes the different stages of the settlement’s history visible without grouping them into a single era.
Finds from the ancient city of Kelin are kept at the Colección Museográfica Permanente Luis García de Fuentes. The museum is open to the public. Check the visiting arrangements before you arrive so you can include a museum visit in your plans. The site and the collection offer different points of interest: Kelin is known for its preserved urban structures, while the collection features finds from the ancient city.
Wine experiences and local cuisine
The “Cata dinámica” experience includes several tastings in succession. Weather permitting, it begins with a white wine tasting beneath a centuries-old holm oak. This is followed by a visit to the winery, where the winemaking process is explained. Next, two red wines are sampled with a light bite made from local food products; house vermouths round off the experience. The programme thus combines an explanation of the winemaking process with a range of wines and a light bite.
Casa Doñana invites visitors to explore the estate and stroll among the vineyards. Check the current visiting arrangements before your visit. The “De la viña a la copa” experience offers a different culinary focus: it includes a typical lunch featuring local cuisine. When comparing the experiences described, “Cata dinámica” focuses on a sequence of tastings, while “De la viña a la copa” centres on lunch.
River, hiking trails and getting there
The Río Madre crosses the municipal area from west to east. It is a tributary of the Magro and its first dependable water source.
The SL-CV 187 hiking trail begins at Parque de la Fuente Grande in Caudete de las Fuentes. It follows the Camino de la Lana towards the Cañada Honda micro-reserve. There is also an alternative route through Caudete de las Fuentes for one stage of the Camino de Santiago. Check trail conditions before setting out; these two details help distinguish the hiking trail from the Camino alternative.
The Autovía de Levante (Madrid–Valencia) is the main access road. When planning your stay, you can match your journey with the local attractions that interest you: architecture and archaeology, traditions, wine or trails.
