Cheste: Circuit, Urban Art and Nature
Accommodation in Cheste
Cheste combines a variety of reasons to visit: public motorcycle track sessions at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, urban art, recurring festivals and trails through an ecologically restored landscape. When planning your trip, it makes a difference whether you want to attend a specific event or focus on architectural history and nature. For events and track sessions, dates and schedules are especially important; for a hike, the current trail conditions matter too.
Motorsport at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo
At the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, visitors can ride their own motorcycles on the racetrack during public track sessions. Session dates may change, so check the schedule before your visit. The circuit is located on the A3 Valencia–Madrid, exit 334, at 46380 Cheste (Valencia), Spain. Before travelling, also check any restrictions specific to the event.
Urban Art and Routes through Town
Graffitea is an urban art project supported by the Culture Department of Cheste Town Council. It includes murals in various parts of the municipality, as well as talks, discussions, screenings and practical workshops. The project comprises more than 100 interventions of artistic value, which have turned Cheste into an open-air museum; the number may grow with future editions. Graffitea takes place regularly, but the programme varies from one edition to another. If you want to attend specific events or workshops, check the programme for the relevant year.
The Ruta Urbana offers another perspective on the town: it runs through the town centre, visiting emblematic buildings and squares. Some stops feature short explanatory panels. Historic buildings include the Ermita de la Virgen de la Soledad, a Neoclassical chapel built on the site of an older temple dating from the 16th century. The Iglesia Parroquial de San Lucas Evangelista can also be appreciated for its several chapels and interesting sculptures.
Festivals and Moscatel
The Fiesta de la Vendimia is celebrated in honour of the patron saint, San Lucas Evangelista, and in gratitude for the harvest. The programme begins with the Pisá de la uva. It also includes bull processions with horses, rural bull runs, processions and folk dances; individual activities may vary from one edition to another. Since the dates also depend on the year, check the specific festival dates and programme before your trip.
FIVAMOS is an annual Moscatel event. The programme includes presentations and tastings of local products, wine tastings, food pairings and visits to the participating municipalities of Chiva, Godelleta and Cheste. The host municipality changes with each edition. FIVAMOS and the Fiesta de la Vendimia therefore have different focuses: one features Moscatel and tastings, while the other centres on the harvest and its festival traditions.
Park and Hiking Trail
Parque de La Lomiquia lies on the edge of the municipality. It was created by ecologically restoring a degraded site that had previously been used as a rubbish dump. The park covers more than 55,000 m²; paths cross the area and provide access to a variety of natural features. At a pond, mallards (Anas platyrhynchos), Eurasian teals (Anas crecca) and frogs (Pelophylax perezi) find food, water or shelter. Check local access conditions for the park before your visit.
For a longer hike, there is the local SL-CV 77 Sendero del Barranco Hondo trail, promoted by Cheste Town Council. It is 10.20 km long, with a theoretical walking time of three hours. Quality control is subject to conditions, and the trail’s condition may have changed since it was inspected. So check the current trail conditions before setting off.
If you are looking for a hotel in Cheste, your reason for visiting can guide your travel plans: check the dates for festivals or track sessions, and take the current trail conditions into account when planning a hike.
