In Cofrentes, river cruises on the Júcar, trails along the Cabriel and historic sites shape the visitor experience. The area is also home to the Cerro de Agras volcanic site and regional dishes. You can tailor your stay to suit different interests: a trip across the reservoir, a route on foot or by bike, birdwatching, or a look at the area's cultural heritage.

River Cruises and Landscapes

The Ruta fluvial del Júcar is a boat trip between Cofrentes and Cortes de Pallás. A boat acquired by the Cofrentes Town Council can carry 50 passengers and covers the 14 kilometres of the Cortes reservoir in just over an hour. This approximate duration gives you a guide for planning your time. For a specific trip, it is worth checking the latest departure information.

The Júcar river cruise begins at the former Embarcaderos dam. There is a landing stage, parking, a covered waiting and rest area, and an information and ticket office. The Cañones del Júcar reveal another side of the river landscape: here, the Júcar runs between tall, sheer rock walls. You can explore the area by boat or along hiking trails—two different perspectives on the same landscape.

A network of trails covering a total of 57 kilometres runs through the varied landscapes of Monte Alcola, along the Cabriel, by the former mining site of the Cerro de Agras volcano, and around the Hervideros de Cofrentes thermal spa. Cerro de Agras is a volcanic site open to visitors and is considered the only geologically young volcano in the Comunitat Valenciana.

The Tren Turístico de Cofrentes also follows the course of the Cabriel, allowing visitors to see natural attractions in the municipality and surrounding area. Those particularly interested in birds will find birdwatching routes, especially along the banks of the Cabriel and the Júcar. For cyclists, the Centro BTT has nine signposted routes through Cofrentes and nearby towns. Together, the routes cover about 259 kilometres.

Local History and Cultural Heritage

The urban route through Cofrentes is suitable for all groups of visitors and takes in the town's most representative cultural, heritage and historic features. Notable landmarks in the town's history include the Parroquia de San José, built in 1621 on the former site of the Cofrentes mosque, and the Castillo de Cofrentes. After the expulsion of the Moriscos in the early 17th century, the castle was converted into a palatial residence by Pedro Centelles de Borja.

The Cueva de Santa Ana recalls the town's agricultural past: it was once a wine press where agricultural produce and products from home butchering were stored. The Maderada, celebrated during Cofrentes's May festivities, puts a different part of local history in the spotlight. It commemorates the work of timber workers between the 14th and 18th centuries.

Thermal Experiences and Regional Cuisine

The Balneario de Cofrentes combines medical thermal treatments with physiotherapy programmes. The offer also includes outdoor activities, guided tours, a thermal circuit, and wellness and beauty treatments. If you are planning a particular treatment, it is best to check the current offer in advance. Cofrentes also offers mono-rafting trips on the Cabriel, as well as guided cycling and hiking tours; for these activities, too, it is advisable to check current dates and availability.

A local speciality is Ollica Cofrentina, a dish made with typical regional ingredients. These include pinto beans, chard, ham bone, pig's trotter, bacon, backbone, blood sausage, lamb and potatoes. Restaurants in Cofrentes can prepare the dish by prior arrangement. If you would like to try it, ask the restaurant about it before planning your visit.
