Discover La Font D'en Carròs
Accommodation in La Font D'en Carròs
La Font d'en Carròs combines a rich architectural and cultural history with forest trails, a cave and opportunities for outdoor recreation. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, you can plan around whether you want to focus on historical landmarks, a route or a festival date. The different themes offer distinct ideas for shaping your trip.
Church, town wall and ceramic panels
The parish church of Sant Antoni Màrtir was built in 1329 over an earlier mosque. The church houses the tombs of Francesc Carròs I and Francesc Carròs II, as well as an altarpiece of the Adoration of the Magi attributed to Espinosa. Its architectural history and works of art give a visit to the church its own historical focus.
About 100 metres of the 14th-century wall and the remains of two towers survive from the Muralles del Rafalí. The site is recognised as a Bé d’Interés Cultural (BIC). Alongside the church, visitors interested in medieval fortifications will find another testament to the town’s history here; the reported length of the surviving wall is approximate.
The Ruta urbana dels plafons offers a different perspective on the town’s history. More than 40 religious ceramic panels have survived along this route: they are found on house façades and, in some cases, indoors. The history of these panels in the streets dates back to around the second half of the 18th century. The Font dels Xorros also stands in Plaça Francesc Carròs. It has seven water spouts that flow into a rectangular basin. An inscription probably gives 1826 as the year it was built and the water was channelled.
The Museu Casa de la Paraula is located in the former home of lexicographer Francesc Ferrer Pastor. It showcases his life, work and contribution to the Valencian language. The former town hall also dates from the 14th century; today, the building houses the Oficina de Turismo and two exhibition rooms. The museum and exhibition rooms complement the buildings and panels with a focus on language and local history.
Forest route, summit and outdoor recreation
The PR-CV 347 route runs entirely through woodland. It starts at the cemetery park, climbs to the summit of Covatelles and then returns to the starting point. From the summit, panoramic views extend along the Mediterranean coast from Cullera to Cap de Sant Antoni and Montgó, and inland towards the Safor, Benicadell, Mondúber and Serra Grossa. The route description thus combines a circular trail with a clearly identified viewpoint and a broad perspective of the coast and inland areas.
Another point of connection between landscape and history is Muntanya del Rabat: its summit is 167 metres high, and remains of an Iberian settlement have been found there. La Sima Blanca – Cova del Mosquit, by contrast, is a tectonic cave with a 20-metre-deep shaft, several chambers and an underground aquifer. It is accessible only to cave exploration experts; specialised equipment is required. This access restriction should be taken into account when planning your trip.
For outdoor recreation, there is Parc de la Plana, with 15,000 m² of landscaped recreational area. Facilities include tables, benches, children’s play equipment, a zip line, a skatepark, a pétanque court and a barbecue area. The available options are quite distinct: the PR-CV 347 is a forest route with summit views, while the park brings together several named leisure facilities in one area.
Festivals and dates to help plan your trip
The Moros i Cristians festival currently comprises six comparsas: three Moorish and three Christian groups. It takes place on the weekend before the patron saint celebrations. If you want to plan your hotel booking around this festival, check the exact event dates before travelling.
Sant Antoni del Porquet has its roots in the 16th century and takes place every year on the weekend after 17 January, around the Ermita de Sant Antoni. The festival includes a medieval market where traditional activities such as pottery, esparto grass processing, glassmaking and goldsmithing are demonstrated. For this festival too, it is advisable to check the exact dates of the activities before travelling.
Another annual date is 29 September: a pilgrimage then travels from La Font d'en Carròs to the Ermita Sant Miquel. A mass and a shared breakfast follow there. The festivals offer different highlights, from the comparsas and demonstrations of traditional crafts to the pilgrimage and gathering afterwards. If you are looking for a hotel in La Font d'en Carròs, your preferred travel dates and interest in culture, routes or festivals can help you plan your stay.
