Llanera de Ranes: Museums, History and a Hiking Route
Accommodation in Llanera de Ranes
Local culture, art and a hiking route offer different perspectives on a stay in Llanera de Ranes. The irrigated agricultural landscape also shapes the surroundings. When planning your visit, the main consideration is which focus appeals to you most: collections, religious architecture and ceramic history, or a trail through the Canyoles Valley.
Landscape and Hiking Route
The area around Llanera de Ranes is characterised by an irrigated agricultural landscape with orange trees, irrigation channels and persimmon trees. Cultivation and irrigation are both part of the landscape. The Route de la Costera de Ranes passes through flat terrain in the Canyoles River valley and connects Llanera de Ranes with other nearby towns. It is a very easy trail. Along the route, information panels explain the area’s history; hiking is one of the recommended leisure activities in Llanera de Ranes. The route thus combines two interests: a walk across flat terrain and insights into the area’s history from the panels along the way.
Museums of Tradition and Art
The Luis Perales Ethnological Museum explores the popular and traditional culture of Llanera de Ranes and the comarca. Its collection occupies an entire three-storey building and was assembled over more than 40 years. Its main themes include everyday objects from agriculture. The museum thus connects tangible items from agricultural life with a cultural perspective on the town and the comarca.
The small Rafel Boluda Museum is dedicated to the work of Valencian watercolourist Rafael Boluda. Alongside his work, selected pieces by other artists are displayed. An educational exhibition explores the development of Boluda’s work and oeuvre.
The museums have different focuses: the Luis Perales Ethnological Museum explores traditional culture and everyday agricultural objects, while the Rafel Boluda Museum centres on the work of one artist and its development. You can therefore choose between a focus on folk culture and one on art.
Religious History of the Town
The parish church of San Juan Bautista in Llanera de Ranes dates from the 18th century and was built in the Neoclassical style. Religious ceramic shrines dating from the 19th century have been preserved in the old town, on Carrer Santa Teresa and Carrer del Crist. The religious heritage also includes a hermitage in the El Calvario area. The church and shrines represent different forms of religious expression: Neoclassical church architecture on the one hand, and ceramic shrines in the old town’s streets on the other.
Culinary Tradition
A national ArnadĂ competition is held in Llanera de Ranes. Alongside the museums and religious architectural history, a culinary event is therefore another part of local life. As a competition, it offers a cultural focus different from collections and buildings. If you want to plan your trip around it, check the event dates in advance.
