Paiporta: Industrial Heritage, Sant Jordi and Local Cuisine
Accommodation in Paiporta
Paiporta can be explored through a few distinct themes: a former brickworks, a chalet associated with silk weaving, the Church of Sant Jordi and traditional dishes. If you’re looking for a hotel in Paiporta, these different points of interest can help you plan your stay. Industrial heritage, religious art and food culture each offer a different way to experience the town.
Brickworks and silk weaving
The El Pilar brickworks, also known in Paiporta as El Rajolar de Bauset, began operating in mid-1924. When Paiporta Town Council acquired the Rajolar site in December 1994, only the main hall and chimney remained of the original complex. These two dates mark different milestones: the start of operations and the condition of the site when it was later acquired.
The Chalet de Catalá was originally attached to Rafael Catalá’s silk-weaving workshop and has a public garden; check whether it is currently open for use before visiting. Unlike the Rajolar, it offers a glimpse into a different area of Paiporta’s industrial history: silk weaving rather than brickmaking.
Church and culture
The Church of Sant Jordi was inaugurated on 10 August 1754 and is designated as a local cultural asset. It is dedicated to Sant Jordi; San Roque, the municipality’s patron saint, has a prominent place in the church. One of the chapels was painted by Salvador Montesa Manzano, a member of the Parpalló group.
The Auditori de Paiporta has a main hall with 472 seats and a conference hall with 125 seats. The main hall therefore has almost four times as many seats as the conference hall. If an event is relevant to your trip, check the dates and access information in advance.
Traditional cuisine in Paiporta
Pataca, also known as Pataqueta, and Rollo are among the traditional types of bread most commonly used in Paiporta. Another dish is Guisao de San Roc, made with chicken, rabbit and meatballs. The sauce contains onions, tomatoes, garlic, parsley, chopped almonds and cognac; it is seasoned with red pepper. As culinary highlights, the breads and Guisao represent two different traditions: traditional baked goods and a named dish with a specific combination of ingredients.
Festival programme and getting there
The programme for the 2025 Festes de Sant Roc brought together live music, popular culture, children’s activities, sports, and religious and festive traditions. Events included the Dansà de Sant Roc, a Correfoc, the Festa del Melonet, the Cavalcada de Sant Roc and the Cremà del Gos. Dates and programmes may vary; if you’re planning a trip around the festival, check the current dates and programme.
