San Antonio: Culture, Wine and Nature Trail
Accommodation in San Antonio
San Antonio can be explored through several different interests: the history of San Antonio Church, the Teatro GarcĂa Berlanga, winery experiences, the Turia-Cabriel Nature Trail and local festivals. When planning your trip, the specific offerings and dates are particularly important: wine tastings require a reservation, festival dates should be checked, and a daily time window is listed for the station. Whether you plan your stay around a visit, a festival or a route depends on which of these experiences interests you most.
Church and Theatre History
San Antonio Church replaced the original church, which was built in the 15th century, and preserves its bell tower. The surviving tower links the present-day church building to its predecessor: the earlier building was replaced, but its bell tower remained.
The Teatro GarcĂa Berlanga was built in 1914. Its restoration in 2007 helped promote cultural life in San Antonio. Theatre history and the development of cultural life can therefore also be among the themes that shape a stay.
Wineries and Wine Experiences
Dominio de la Vega has carefully restored Casa del Conde, a winery dating from the late 19th century in San Antonio de Requena. The original wine presses and underground wine vats have been preserved. These features reflect the building’s historic use for winemaking.
Dominio de la Vega also offers guided tours of the winery and vineyards, with commentary during wine and cava tastings. Reservations are required for these tours. Dominio de la Vega’s Nuestras RaĂces experience combines a winery visit and tasting with a lunch featuring typical regional produce. Lunch is explicitly included in Nuestras RaĂces; confirm its availability before you arrive.
The two experiences have different focuses: the guided tours include vineyards and commented tastings, while Nuestras RaĂces also includes a lunch featuring typical regional produce. When planning, you can therefore consider whether you are mainly interested in the tour and tasting or would also like to include a meal.
Nature Trail and Getting There
The Turia-Cabriel Nature Trail crosses the Magro River near San Antonio de Requena. Route downloads in GPX and Google Earth formats are available for the Siete Aguas–Jaraguas section. When planning your route, check the stage information so you can match the downloads to the section listed.
There is also a specific time reference for getting there: a daily time window of 05:51 to 22:01 is listed for San Antonio de Requena station. Check this time window before travelling.
Festivals Throughout the Year
The patron saint festivals in honour of Saint Anthony of Padua take place in mid-June. They include processions and open-air dances, among other events. On 17 January, Saint Anthony the Abbot is honoured in San Antonio with a large bonfire, followed by a communal dinner.
Two different dates in the annual calendar are therefore in focus: the patron saint festivals, with several events in mid-June, and the evening of 17 January, with a bonfire and communal meal. If you would like to plan your stay around either occasion, check the specific dates and arrangements in advance.
