A trip to Sot De Chera offers three distinct areas of interest: geological features, historic buildings, and seasonal activities by the river. El Anticlinal, the Iglesia de San Sebastián Mártir, and the area along the Río de Sot each represent a different theme. When planning, you can decide which one to focus on according to your interests.

Geology and hiking

El Anticlinal is a geological landmark featuring an almost perfect fold in several rock layers. This makes the landmark a specific point of interest for travelers interested in landscapes and geological history. At La Canal, the river forms natural pools surrounded by dense vegetation. This gives you two different nature themes to consider when planning: the rock layers and the pools shaped by water and vegetation.

A 2020 tourism brochure describes the approved short-distance hiking trail PR-CV 414 CUESTA LARGA, which passes through the area around the Cuevas del MorrĂłn and the Fuente Fetge recreational area. Route conditions can change, so check the current status before planning a hike.

As of the check on August 27, 2026, the Ruta RĂo Sot was not passable. Check its current status before planning a trip.

River scenery and seasons

Along the Río de Sot there is a public area used as a pleasant walking route in winter and for swimming in summer; it is popularly known as “Charco El Gruñidor.” Walking and swimming are different seasonal activities: walking is the winter option, while swimming is the summer one. Since seasonal conditions can vary, check in advance whether your preferred activity is suitable for the time of your trip.

Building history and culture

The Castillo de Sot de Chera is protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural in the Monument category and is listed in the General Register of Assets of Cultural Interest of Spain’s Historical Heritage. Sections of the walls and the remains of a square tower have been preserved. The listing classifies the Castillo as a protected cultural asset, while the wall sections and tower remains describe the surviving structure. Visits are possible by prior reservation and are free of charge.

The Iglesia de San Sebastián Mártir was completed in 1695. Its design is late Baroque and also points to Neoclassicism. The Sagrario triptych and the altarpiece are attributed to Juan de Juanes. This means that the building’s history and the attribution of two works are distinct art-historical aspects.

La Almazara del Conde is a small museum displaying a crushing mill used in the traditional production of olive oil. Unlike the architectural and artistic themes of the Castillo and church, the focus here is on a piece of equipment and the craft of olive oil production. La Almazara del Conde can also be visited free of charge by prior reservation.
