Enviken combines striking church architecture with hiking trails, folk music and local history. When planning a stay, the trails offer a range of options: from a five-kilometre loop to the 24-kilometre Pilgrimsleden. There are also protected natural areas and events with their own local character.

Churches and Local History

Enviken’s old church was built mainly between 1669 and 1673 as the first church on this site. The wooden church has a rectangular nave and a chancel with a straight end wall. The sacristy is on the north side, the porch on the south side, and a narrower tower stands at the west end. It is protected as a church heritage site under Chapter 4 of Sweden’s Historic Environment Act (KML). Another church, Envikens kyrka, was inaugurated in 1957.

The area’s forestry history also has its own setting: the forest museum at Göras Trösklada covers forestry in the area from the 1850s to mechanisation around 1960. Görasgården was inaugurated in 1984. There, the local heritage association hosts the Göras Days, with a range of activities and coffee refreshments.

Since late 2024, the fäbod culture has been included on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Grejsans fäbod is in Enviken, in Falun Municipality. Traditional fäbod culture includes products such as butter, cheese and messmör.

Hikes by Length and Character

The Torsktjärnsrundan is five kilometres long and connects two old hiking trails towards Arnbo and Gårdvik. It starts at Enviken gamla kyrka and follows orange markers. From Torsktjärnsberget, the loop offers views of Enviken and the surrounding area. You can park at the old church for this hike; check before you arrive whether parking is available there.

At 24 kilometres, Pilgrimsleden is considerably longer, easy to walk and also marked in orange. It can be hiked in Enviken. Their length and character give you a concrete basis for choosing between the two trails; the starting point of the Torsktjärnsrundan and its connection to the trails towards Arnbo and Gårdvik are also specified. Trail conditions can change, so it is a good idea to check current conditions before setting out.

Spjärshällen and Nature Experiences

The Kurberget–Alderbacka–Spjärshällen hike passes through the Spjärshällen Nature Reserve, which includes marshland and old spruce forest. The route is accessible via Enviken. Spjärshällen is part of the Natura 2000 network of protected natural areas. A viewing tower stands on Spjärshällen, which is 506 metres above sea level; there is also a wind shelter where overnight stays are possible.

A snowmobile route runs through the northern part of the protected area between Enviken/Linghed and Svartnäs. Seasonal conditions and access rules may change. So, before planning to use the route, check the applicable conditions.

Other activities add to the options: Klockarnäs Enviken is a swimming area in Falun Municipality. Fishing is possible in Marnäsån; a fishing licence is required.

Music and Events

Enviken has lively folk music venues and a vibrant 1950s rockabilly culture. Enviksdagen is held on a Saturday in May. The programme includes, among other things, a classic car parade, a flea market and activities for children; programme details may vary. If you want to plan your trip around an event, check the latest dates and programme information.

There are various interests to consider when choosing your stay: church architecture and forestry history, marked hiking trails, fishing, or local music and events. The specific trail lengths, the starting point of the Torsktjärnsrundan and seasonal notes about individual activities can help you tailor your plans to your trip.
