Tandådalen: Hotels for skiing and cross-country skiing
Accommodation in Tandådalen
When planning a stay in Tandådalen, you can start by considering whether skiing, the snow park or cross-country skiing will be your main focus. The ski area includes Östra Tandådalen and the area around Tandådalstorget. Connecting lifts link Tandådalen with Hundfjället. This layout and the range of winter sports on offer give you a practical basis for choosing the focus of your holiday.
Ski area, snow park and ski school
Östra Tandådalen is characterised by open scenery. It is home to SkiStar Snow Park Tandådalen, SkiStar Sälen’s largest snow park. Its features include jumps, rails and boxes at several levels. At Tandådalstorget, Valles skidland has drag lifts, a conveyor belt and child-friendly ski runs. There is a playground near Valles skidland. For guests with children, these are useful points of reference, distinct from the facilities in the snow park.
The ski school in Tandådalen offers group lessons and ski courses with a guide for children, teenagers and adults at different levels. Lessons are available seasonally. Participants meet at the bottom station of the Skidskoleliften (T8); the meeting-point arrangements may change seasonally. If you are planning lessons, both seasonal availability and this meeting point are practical details to bear in mind.
Comparing cross-country trails
At the Cross Country Arena Tandådalen, you can ski the illuminated 2.7-kilometre trail using either the classic or skating technique. Two other trails differ in length, starting point and difficulty: Pulsen is a very easy, 3-kilometre cross-country trail starting in Östra Tandådalen. Kalven runt starts at the cross-country centre in the centre of Tandådalen and is 11 kilometres long. The trail is considered easy and passes through hilly terrain. Pulsen is therefore considerably shorter, while Kalven runt combines a longer distance with the explicitly mentioned hilly terrain.
Cross-country trail conditions vary by season. Check them before your visit if you have a particular trail in mind. The Lill-Närfjällsleden offers another useful point of reference for route planning: to access it, start by parking at Hemköp in Tandådalen; red crosses mark the route.
Nature and history of Tandådalen
Connecting trails from Tandådalen lead into the Norra Transtrandsfjällen Nature Reserve. The reserve is used, among other things, for dog-sledding tours and snowmobile safaris. These activities offer a different focus from the facilities by the lifts or in the cross-country arena, and can help you factor the natural area into your plans for your stay.
The development of the lift system is also part of the area’s history: the construction of the mountain road in the late 1950s opened up opportunities for installing lifts in Tandådalen. Today’s winter sports facilities thus contrast with the historical changes to the infrastructure.
