Discover Gesunda
Accommodation in Gesunda
Gesunda is a village at the foot of Gesundaberget; Tomteland is in the village. When looking for a hotel, you can consider what you want to focus on during your trip: the views from the mountain, hikes along the Romboleden, or attractions such as Malibambo and swimming in Lake Aurorasjön on warm days. These interests highlight different aspects of the destination and can guide your travel plans.
Mountain scenery and views
Gesundaberget rises 353 metres above Siljan and is 514 metres above sea level. The figures use different reference points: the first gives the elevation above Siljan, while the second gives the elevation above sea level. The views from Gesundaberget have been awarded three stars in the Michelin Green Guide. For a trip centred on the landscape, both the mountain’s elevation and its award-winning views are distinctive features.
Hiking on two scales
For hiking, the blue trail offers a clearly defined route. It goes all the way up Gesundaberget, descends steeply on the far side, passes through Borrbergs fäbod to Mångbergs fäbod, where there is a lovely swimming spot, and returns to Gesunda via gravel roads. The steep descent is an important factor in planning your hike; check trail conditions before setting out.
The Romboleden is considered Sweden’s longest pilgrimage route; its origins date back to the 11th century. The Dala-Floda–Sollerön stage passes Åsengården and Gesunda and is described as a four-day hike along summer-pasture trails through a 16th-century setting. The two dates have different roles: the 11th century refers to the origins of the pilgrimage route, while the 16th century refers to the setting described for the stage. The four-day duration applies to the stage, not to the entire Romboleden.
When planning your hikes, the two options differ mainly in their focus: the blue trail highlights the route and steep descent, while the Romboleden stage is notable for its four-day duration. Before setting out, check trail conditions or plan your stage accordingly.
Gesunda along the routes
For geographical orientation, consider Tomteland and the hiking routes separately: Tomteland is in the village of Gesunda. The blue trail climbs Gesundaberget and returns to Gesunda via gravel roads, while the Dala-Floda–Sollerön stage passes through Gesunda. Gesunda is therefore the endpoint of one route and a place passed through on the other.
More activities
Malibambo is now used for services, fairs, meditation and yoga. At Malibambo on the Siljansleden, there is a shelter, an overnight hut and a spring. If you plan to use any of these facilities, check their condition before your visit. On warm days, you can swim in Lake Aurorasjön.
