Gopshus offers two clearly defined themes to consider when planning a trip: alpine runs at Gopshusbacken and several trails with specific destinations. It also has a connection to the Vasaloppet, whose course the Vasaloppsleden largely follows through Gopshus. When planning a stay, you can first consider whether the ski slope, a particular hiking route or the history of the race is most important to your choice. The following features of the area bring these distinctions into focus.

Alpine skiing at Gopshusbacken

The family-friendly alpine ski slope Gopshusbacken has four runs; the longest is 1,350 metres long. Operating hours may vary, so check the latest information before making specific plans.

Trails with different destinations

All six trails in the Gopshus trail network start at the information board near Gopshusbacken. They include LinnĂ©stigen, Finnsannrundan, Enmyrrundan, HögĂ„sstigen, Runt berget and Åsmyrrundan. LinnĂ©stigen leads to the summit of Gopshusberget, while Finnsannrundan has stops with suggested exercises. This is a specific difference to consider when choosing between the two routes: a named summit destination on LinnĂ©stigen, and stops with suggested exercises on Finnsannrundan.

Vasaloppet routes and their distances

The Vasaloppsleden hiking trail runs through Gopshus and largely follows the Vasaloppet course there. The fully developed trail runs from SĂ€len to Mora, with nine overnight huts along the route. Route infrastructure may be maintained or changed. If you are planning to use the trail, check its current status.

Gopshusbacken is connected to Oxberg by a lit trail via the VasaloppsspÄret. The round trip is about 8 km. The trail and lighting may vary depending on maintenance; check local trail conditions if you plan to use this connection.

The distances refer to different things: 1,350 metres is the longest individual run, while about 8 km is the approximate round-trip distance to Oxberg. The Vasaloppsleden, by contrast, connects SĂ€len and Mora, with nine huts along the route.

Location, nature and history

Gopshus lies on the southwestern shore of Lake Spjutmosjön. The section of the VasaloppsspÄret that runs through Gopshus is part of a municipal nature reserve. Check the local rules before visiting this area.

From 1937 to 1962, Gopshus was a checkpoint for the Vasaloppet. If you are interested in the history of the race as well as the landscape and trails, this period is a specific historical connection to the area.
