Ånn lies on the northern shore of Lake Ånnsjön. The landscape close to the mountains combines the lake and wetlands with trails leading toward the mountain scenery. There are also activities on and by the water, as well as winter pursuits. When planning your stay, you can decide whether to focus mainly on the wetlands, mountain hikes or the lake.

Lake Ånnsjön, wetlands and bird protection

Lake Ånnsjön and the surrounding wetlands form a mountain-adjacent wetland area of about ten square kilometres. Almost the entire Ramsar site at Lake Ånnsjön is designated as a Natura 2000 site. The Enadeltat and Halsnäsdeltat areas make up the bird sanctuary by the lake.

The route to Lake Ånnsjön is signposted from Ånn railway station. Below the station, Fågelstigen begins—a hiking trail leading to the wetlands by the lake. A bird observatory was established in 1988 in nearby Handöl, by Lake Ånnsjön. Research projects on the development of bird populations take place there every year, and interested visitors can take part.

Hiking trails and mountain destinations

Ånn is a starting point for mountain hikes to several nearby peaks that are relatively easy to climb. One of these is nearby Storsnasen: an easy hike offers views over the valley, Lake Ånnsjön and Åre. This makes the peak a different kind of destination from Fågelstigen, which leads to the wetlands by the lake.

From the Enan car park, trails lead toward Sylarnas Fjällstation, Silverfallet and Storulvåns Fjällstation. If you plan to use this access point, check the car park conditions before setting out. Cycling is also possible in Ånn. There is also a prepared, illuminated trail.

Fishing, paddling and winter activities

You can fish for Arctic char and trout in Lake Ånnsjön. Klocka Gård is a place to arrange boat rental for fishing in Ånn. If you plan to use a boat, check availability in advance.

Lake Ånnsjön and its surroundings also offer opportunities for kayaking. Käringnäset can be reached by kayak, canoe or stand-up paddleboard. Long-distance ice skating takes place on Lake Ånnsjön in winter. There are also several well-maintained snowmobile trails around Ånn, with views of the mountain scenery; rules and conditions may vary. The activities therefore differ in focus: fishing and kayaking are water-based, while long-distance ice skating is a winter activity.

Rock carvings, swimming area and sauna

Käringnäset has historic rock carvings dating back to around 2000 BC. This excursion destination therefore combines a cultural heritage connection with access by water.

Österbåtstan is a local swimming area with two jetties. There is also a sauna; the area is managed by Vallans Samfällighet. If you want to plan a sauna visit in advance, check the available options beforehand.
