When looking for a hotel in Svenstavik, it helps to set clear priorities: Would you like to consider the town centre and travel connections, are you drawn to Hoverberget, or are fishing and exercise your main focus? Svenstavik combines a central cultural attraction with connections to nature and activities in the town and its surroundings. This lets you plan your stay around your own interests.

Getting here and the town centre

Svenstavik is a stop on the Inlandsbanan railway. The E45 highway also runs through the town and the eastern part of the municipality. Public transport connects Svenstavik to Östersund; the journey takes about 50 minutes. These travel connections answer different planning questions: the station is in Svenstavik, the E45 runs through the town, and the approximate journey time refers to public transport to Östersund. When looking for a hotel, you can first consider which way of travelling is most important for your trip.

Culture in the centre

Svenstavik Library is located in the market square in the centre. Part of the former Storsjöodjurscentret is now housed there and is known as Storsjöodjursrummet; the room is part of the library’s visitor offering. The market square is therefore a specific point of reference for a visit to the town centre. If you also want to set aside time in the town itself, you’ll find a cultural attraction here, while Hoverberget lies a few kilometres north of Svenstavik.

Hoverberget: views, forest and seasonal fika

The summit and viewpoints of Hoverberget offer far-reaching views. Steep slopes, sheer rock faces and caves define the mountain, and its forests are home to many plant and animal species. Most of Hoverberget is a nature reserve, with many hiking trails. You can also hike through beautiful, unspoilt forest on the mountain. The landscape offers more than a single viewpoint: rock formations, forest and hiking trails are all part of the natural attractions described here.

Toppstugan is also located on Hoverberget. It offers views across Lake Storsjön and the mountains. In summer, Toppstugan serves waffles, coffee and homemade fika. Food and drink are available seasonally, making this a different consideration for your plans from the mountain’s viewpoints and hiking trails.

Sport and fishing

The ski and training trail in Svenstavik is open every day. At Friluftslånet, anyone can borrow sports and leisure equipment free of charge. This means you can choose between two different sporting options: a trail and free equipment lending.

Lake Storsjön and the Svenstaån river are two different points of reference for fishing. At Svenstavik’s Lagunparken, you can fish in Lake Storsjön from Svenstabron bridge free of charge and without a fishing licence. The Svenstaåns FVO fishing area covers the Svenstaån upstream of the bridge on public road No. 542 through Svenstavik. The central fishing spot on the Svenstaån is next to the activity park by Svenstavik Health Centre. At Lake Storsjön, the fishing spot at the bridge and the conditions for fishing free of charge are specified; on the Svenstaån, the boundaries of the fishing area and the location of the central fishing spot provide guidance.
