Ytterhogdal brings together local history, landscapes and water-based activities. The church and Gammelträde offer different historical perspectives. There is also the Kårböleleden trail, the E45, which runs through the village, and the Hoan River. Fishing is possible in summer and winter; for swimming, there is the Simhallen swimming pool and a bathing area in the village centre. You can choose from historical attractions, trails and water-based activities during your stay.

The Church and Local History

Ytterhogdal Church is first mentioned in written records in 1531. The current church was built of stone between 1799 and 1809 and has a tower on its eastern side. These are two distinct dates: the 1531 reference concerns the church, while the years 1799 to 1809 refer to the present stone building.

The church is usually locked. You can arrange a visit through the parish office, which will arrange for a caretaker to open it if possible. Check with the parish office before your visit to find out whether it can be opened.

Gammelträde is located by Kyrksjön in an area of cultural and historical interest. The main residential building dates from the early 18th century and stands in its original location. Buildings, tools and household items are on display at Gammelträde. It also illustrates how everyday tasks were carried out in the 18th and 19th centuries. The focus is therefore not only on buildings, but also on former work practices and everyday objects.

Trails and Landscapes

The E45 runs through Ytterhogdal and serves as a point of reference for finding your way around the village. The Kårböleleden trail leads from the church to the E45. The route continues via Trumstedsvägen, Ångevägen and Buvägen towards Överhogdal. If you plan to take this route, check the trail conditions and markings in advance, as they may change.

The Hoan River flows through Ytterhogdal. Nearby are nature reserves, meadows, lakes and forest landscapes. The natural surroundings range from a river in the village to a variety of landscape types in the surrounding area.
