A stay in Brunflo can focus on a range of interests: medieval architectural history, mountain biking or a hiking stage to Östersund. If you are looking for a hotel in Brunflo, first consider which of these themes you want to shape your trip. Brunflo kyrka and Brunflo Kastal offer historical points of interest. Brunflo Bike Park has several types of trails, and the hike to Östersund is considered a day stage.

Medieval Architectural History in Brunflo

Brunflo kyrka was inaugurated on November 1, 1775. A cross-shaped church dedicated to Saint Olof had already stood on the same site in the 12th century. The history of this church site therefore includes both a medieval predecessor and the inauguration of Brunflo kyrka in the 18th century.

Brunflo kyrka has a medieval sandstone baptismal font. It was made by the Gotlandic master Sighraf, who was active from 1170 to 1215. The baptismal font reflects medieval craftsmanship; the church’s inauguration in 1775 marks a much later period.

Brunflo Kastal is a 30-meter-high defensive tower from the 12th century and was dedicated to Saint Olav. It is the only surviving kastal in Norrland and is among Jämtland’s oldest medieval buildings. While Brunflo kyrka, with its predecessor church and baptismal font, conveys the history of the church, the kastal represents another aspect of the medieval heritage: the defensive tower.

Trails at Brunflo Bike Park

Brunflo Bike Park is a smaller mountain biking facility for people aged around 8 to 9 and up. The larger jump trail is about 400 meters long and has nine jumps. The forest section has six to seven trails with jumps, turns, wall rides and bridges. Brunflo Pumptrack is 170 meters long and includes a jump line.

The trails differ in their features: the larger jump trail is described by its length and number of jumps, the forest section is characterized by several trails and a variety of features, and the pump track combines its length with a jump line. This can help you decide which type of trail best suits your interests as you plan.

Hiking Stage and Getting There

The hiking stage from Brunflo to Östersund is 15.2 kilometers long and is considered a day stage. It runs mostly along Storsjön and offers views of the Oviksfjällen. Unlike the trails in the Bike Park, this stage leads from Brunflo to Östersund; its length and status as a day stage give it a distinct place in your travel plans.
