Rossön offers a range of options to consider when planning your trip: church and regional history, collections, lake scenery and outdoor activities. Think about whether you are most interested in Bodum Church and the museums, water and fishing, or sporting activities. You can also tailor your search for a hotel in Rossön to the things that matter for your stay.

Church architecture and historical traces

Bodum Church stands out for its cross-shaped floor plan, unusual for the area, and its centrally positioned tower. The church is 32 metres long, 22 metres wide and 28 metres high. The floor plan shows the layout of the building from above; together with the tower, it creates a distinctive shape. The church was built in 1884, replacing a smaller wooden church dating from 1799.

Bodum Church also houses a pulpit dated 1630, considered the oldest pulpit in Ångermanland. The church therefore brings together the construction history of the present building and a much older historical artefact. When planning your visit, you can explore the architecture, building history and pulpit as distinct aspects of the church.

Hembygdsgård and museum collections

Bodum Hembygdsgård is located on Hällnäset in Rossön. It includes the former “småskolan” (junior school) and several older buildings. The Hembygdsgård also houses a large museum of everyday objects. The bakehouse can be hired for various gatherings and for baking tunnbröd (thin flatbread). Alongside its buildings and collections, the Hembygdsgård thus provides a practical venue for gatherings and baking together.

The collection at the Rossön Stone Age Museum reaches beyond the Stone Age: it holds objects from around 120 settlement sites in the region dating from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Early Iron Age. It also features a unique collection relating to prehistoric settlement sites in the parishes of Fjällsjö, Bodum and Tåsjö. Visitors interested in the region’s past will find both a broad span of time and a connection to several parishes.

Lakes, waterways and fishing

Lakes and waterways shape the landscape around Rossön. Bodumsjön is a good example: its archipelago-like landscape includes islands, islets and bays. The lake-rich surroundings offer good fishing waters in the Fjällsjöälven river system. You can rent a boat for fishing trips from the Rossön fishing conservation area. Cross-country skiing, a trail and golf

Rossöns IF ski stadium is located near Rossön. In winter, it has illuminated trails measuring 2.6 kilometres, 1.8 kilometres and 0.6 kilometres. The stadium also offers a five-kilometre loop for both classic and freestyle cross-country skiing. The different distances give you a practical guide for planning; seasonal conditions may vary.

Also nearby, the trail to Ruckastenen crosses a bog. It is about two to three kilometres long. Its approximate length and the bog crossing are two practical features of this outing, without requiring you to estimate a specific walking time.

Rossön Golf Course is in the Näsets by neighbourhood, one kilometre outside Rossön, on the Näsån. The course has nine holes, 18 teeing areas and a par of 72. There is a driving range and a putting green by the clubhouse. The sporting options are distinct: the ski stadium has trails and a loop for two cross-country skiing styles, while the golf course is defined by its course details and practice facilities.
