Tived: Sannerud, Culture and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Tived
When looking for a hotel in Tived, it is worth first deciding what you want to focus on during your trip. The places and routes below offer specific starting points for cultural history, cycling, excursions through the landscape, time by the water, and regional cuisine.
Sannerud and Lake Unden
Tiveds kyrka is in Västergötland on the eastern shore of Lake Unden, at the southern end of the village of Sannerud. Sannerud also has a small bathing beach and a harbor for small boats on the lake. This places cultural landmarks and two specific spots by the water alongside each other in the village. If you plan your stay around your interests, you can consider these lakeside locations separately from the trails and cultural destinations.
Church and local history
The nave of Tiveds kyrka was built in 1847; the church is designed in the Neo-Romanesque style. The two details refer to different features: the construction date applies to the nave, while the description of the style refers to the architectural design of the church. This allows you to distinguish the building’s date from its architectural style.
The local heritage association, Tiveds Hembygdsförening, has its heritage farm at the old school in Dammtorp. The farm includes ten additional buildings, each with its own information sign. There is also an activity house for weaving, handicrafts, and various types of arts and crafts. The heritage farm therefore includes both a collection of buildings with information signs and a dedicated focus on textile and other crafts.
Cycling and trails through the landscape
One of the starting points for Tiveden’s 15-mil cycling network is at the parking lot by Tiveds kyrka in Sannerud. Cycling routes also extend from Tiveds samhälle, several farms, and tourist accommodations around Tiveden National Park. The starting point by the church is a specific location in Sannerud; the routes around the national park also connect several other locations and accommodations. When planning, you can distinguish between starting in the village and exploring the wider area around the park.
Konst-i-ring is a combined art and exercise trail through the forest. It starts at the old school building in Sannerud. The Kirchstig Tivedstorp-Sannerud passes through narrow valleys and across marshes. Historically, this trail was used on Sundays for the journey to and from church. While Konst-i-ring combines art and exercise, the Kirchstig also reflects an earlier use of the trail.
The Lilla Kungsleden begins in the village of Sannerud. Since signs and local conditions can change, check for current information before setting out. On the return route of the Kolarleden, the trail passes through Sannerud, where you can stop for coffee or a meal. The two routes therefore offer different points of interest: the Lilla Kungsleden starts in the village, while the return route of the Kolarleden offers an opportunity to stop there.
Local offerings and cuisine
Sannerudsmarken has numerous arts and crafts vendors as well as food and coffee service. Tiveds Lanthandel och krog uses seasonal ingredients in its cuisine. In the smokehouse in the backyard, pork belly and ham are smoked over wood; this smoking tradition has long been practiced in Tiveden. Market stalls, cuisine, and the smokehouse represent different local offerings: arts and crafts and food service on the one hand, and seasonal ingredients and smoked products on the other. If you are visiting specifically for the cuisine or smoked goods, check in advance what is currently available.
