Nävekvarn can be explored through several specific highlights: hiking, swimming and industrial history. The hiking trails vary in their routes and described levels of difficulty; Parkbadet adds a place to swim, while historic sites offer insights into different chapters of the town’s history.

Hikes with different trail profiles

Stage 37 of the Sörmlandsleden begins with an approximately 1.5-kilometre stretch that you walk along a road. The route then climbs steeply to Fyrberget. The viewpoint offers a view over Bråviken. This stage therefore combines a road section with a steep climb to a named viewpoint.

On the Nävekvarnsslingan, the trail climbs and descends steeply at Nävekvarns klint; otherwise, the route is easy to walk and varied. The two routes therefore differ in their described sections: on Stage 37, the steep climb leads to Fyrberget, while on the Nävekvarnsslingan, the steep section is at Nävekvarns klint. The Nävekvarnsslingan also passes the ruins of a 14th-century kiln. If you are choosing between these trails, the viewpoint overlooking Bråviken and the historic ruins may offer different points of interest to help you plan.

You can also hike on the Sörmlandsleden on the small island of Näset. A longer hike along the coastal cliffs is also possible in Nävekvarn. These are additional options beyond the stages mentioned: a hike on Näset and a longer coastal cliff hike. Trail conditions on the Nävekvarnsslingan may vary seasonally; check them before setting out.

Industrial history and historic sites

The first blast furnace at Näfveqvarns bruk was fired up in 1623. In the 1920s, Näfveqvarn became known internationally for its cast-iron products, designed by leading architects and artists of the time. Together, these two dates illustrate different chapters of industrial history: early blast-furnace production and the later design of cast-iron products.

Svalbergsgården is a local heritage farm dating from the 18th century in Nävekvarn. A historical walk in Nävekvarn includes 29 information boards with text and images by artist Elisabet Englund. Nävekvarns Folkets Park is a public park. Events for all age groups are held there; specific programmes vary from year to year.

Parkbadet and practical information

Parkbadet is a long-established bathing spot in Nävekvarn’s harbour area. It is west of the campsite and directly below Folkets Park. The bathing spot has a bathing jetty, swings and a volleyball court. As facilities, water quality and seasonal conditions may change, we recommend checking the condition of the facilities and bathing conditions on site before your visit.

Gula Kvarn is also a named landmark for finding your way along the Sörmlandsleden: Stage 36 ends there. There is a bus stop at Gula Kvarn with services towards Nyköping. If you are planning this stage, check the timetable and current route before travelling, as stage endpoints may change when the route is revised. This will help you plan your hike and return journey based on the available service.
