Accommodation in Spreitenbach
Spreitenbach is located in the central Limmat Valley, in the district of Baden in the canton of Aargau, right on the border with the canton of Zurich. Until the mid-1950s, it was a farming village; during that period, it also had a glider airfield. Following the construction boom that began in the mid-1950s, “Neu-Spreitenbach” was planned as a satellite town. High-rise housing developments and extensive commercial and industrial zones were built.
Local History, Churches and Art
Spreitenbach’s current village church dates from 1638. It stands on the southern edge of the village centre, between the old Catholic rectory and the former Catholic schoolhouse. The church houses the oldest surviving organ case in the Limmat Valley. For almost three centuries, a small place of worship was used alternately by two groups.
The Hasel church centre is home to a carillon of 24 individually controlled bells next to the Church of the Cross. It is described as the third largest in Switzerland. Bruno Weber Park offers a different artistic highlight: its operator describes it as Switzerland’s largest sculpture park. The park is divided into a woodland garden and a water garden. The artist’s house with its tower is only partially open to visitors; the other indoor areas can only be accessed as part of a guided tour. As these access arrangements may change, check them before your visit.
