Discover Zurzach: Thermal Baths, Cultural Heritage and ViaRhenana
Accommodation in Zurzach
Zurzach offers several ways to shape your stay: thermal waters, cultural heritage and landscapes along the Rhine. The current municipality was formed on 1 January 2022 by the merger of the former municipalities of Bad Zurzach, Baldingen, Böbikon, Kaiserstuhl, Rekingen, Rietheim, Rümikon and Wislikofen. Bad Zurzach brings together several of the region’s best-known cultural and leisure attractions; the ViaRhenana also begins there.
Thermal Baths and Rhine Landscape
The Zurzach Thermal Baths offer thermal-water and natural swimming pools. The Bohrturm sauna area includes several saunas, steam baths and relaxation areas. The thermal baths offer a range of different experiences: baths and swimming pools on the one hand, and saunas, steam baths and places to relax on the other.
For those interested in a route through a landscape shaped by water, the ViaRhenana offers another point of interest. It begins in Bad Zurzach and passes through landscapes along Lake Untersee and the High Rhine. In some sections, it follows the Rhine and offers views of the Rhine Valley. The route thus links its starting point with another way to appreciate the region’s distinctive landscape.
Local History and Architecture
The historic centre of Bad Zurzach stretches from the village centre, known as the “Flecken,” down to the Rhine. Verenamünster is associated with a centuries-old pilgrimage tradition and houses art treasures as well as a Gothic crypt. Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque elements come together in the building—offering a distinct way to explore the town’s history alongside a walk through its historic centre.
Guided tours of Verenamünster include visits to the church treasury and the Verena crypt. As this information concerns the visitor programme, it is advisable to check availability for your preferred date before travelling. The old town can also be explored on a guided tour, which takes you along its paths, behind its façades and through hidden corners.
The Höfli District Museum presents the history of the Zurzibiet region. Its exhibits include prehistoric and early historical finds from the district, especially from the Roman settlement of Tenedo. Other focal points include the cult of Saint Verena, the Zurzach fairs and castles, and the history of the corset. The museum thus offers a perspective ranging from early finds to regional customs and historic sites.
Riddle Trail and Regional Food Tour
Another way to experience Bad Zurzach is the Papa Moll Trail, a scavenger hunt with 15 riddles. It begins and ends at Bad Zurzach Tourismus AG, next to the Zurzach Thermal Baths. Its fixed starting and finishing point makes it easy to plan a riddle-based activity into your trip.
Beyond Bad Zurzach, a food tour from farm to farm takes you through the Zurzibiet region. It combines local products and encounters with walks through the area. This gives you a range of options to plan your stay around: a visit to the thermal baths and sauna area, architecture and local history, a riddle trail or a regional tour.
