Discover Rehetobel
Accommodation in Rehetobel
Which aspects of Rehetobel you focus on depends on your travel plans: For hikes, specific distances and stated walking times are available; museums, historic bridges, and an audio trail offer their own cultural highlights. The following differences can help you tailor your stay to your interests.
Hiking trails and nature themes
The Panorama Trail is 3 km long, with a stated hiking time of 1 hour and 30 minutes. The Dorf–Chastenloch–Neuschwendi–Dorf circular hike is listed as 8.4 km and 3 hours. The Honeybee Discovery Trail covers 4 km, with a stated hiking time of 2 hours and 45 minutes. This makes the village loop the longest of the three in both distance and stated time; the Panorama Trail is the shortest by both measures, while the Honeybee Trail falls in between. For planning, compare distance and stated time together. Local conditions may affect the actual hiking time.
Well-marked hiking trails lead from Rehetobel towards Trogen and Gäbris, and in the other direction to Lake Constance. Before making a specific trip, check the timetable to see whether and when a postbus service connects Rehetobel with the local centres of St. Gallen and Heiden. The Kaienspitz fire pit can be reached from Rehetobel via a gently ascending nature trail and invites you to linger at the highest point. Rehetobel lies at 953 metres above sea level; the municipality extends from 610 metres at Achmüli on the Goldach to Kaienspitz at 1,120 metres, its highest point. Deep ravines formed by the Goldach and Moosbach mark the natural boundaries of the municipality.
The Honeybee Discovery Trail has its own focus: it explores the outstanding role of bees in nature’s cycle and their pollination work. If you are interested in how nature works as well as hiking, this theme offers a different perspective from trail distances alone.
Bridges, museums, and audio trail
The Oberach Bridge was built in 1739 to replace an earlier bridge. It is part of an old packhorse trail from Rehetobel through Lobenschwendi to St. Gallen. A second old route crosses the Goldach at AchmĂĽli via a wooden bridge dating from 1701. The two crossings therefore differ both in their year of construction and in their respective places in the historic route network.
The Rehetobel Tractor Museum displays many vintage tractors as well as other agricultural machinery and equipment. Guided tours are available on request, explaining how the tractors and machinery were once used in farming. The Rehetobel Bicycle Museum features two- and three-wheeled vehicles dating from the first half of the 19th century to the present day. While the Tractor Museum focuses on agricultural technology, the bicycle collection spans the period from the early 19th century to today.
The Textildorf hörbar audio trail takes visitors on an approximately one-hour circular walk to ten different stops in Rehetobel. You can use the audio guide on site with a mobile phone and internet access, or download it to your phone at home before setting out. If the audio guide is important to your plans, check the latest usage information in advance.
