Perrefitte: Gorges and Hiking Trails in the Jura
Accommodation in Perrefitte
Perrefitte lies at an elevation of about 600 m above sea level in the Juralängstal of Moutier; Moutier is about two kilometres to the east as the crow flies. Gorges, the Chalière and paths leading to higher pastures shape the landscape. If you enjoy hiking, there are several different options: a dry streambed in the Combe Fabet, the Gorges de Perrefitte at the edge of the village, and routes that start and end in Perrefitte. The differences lie in the terrain and the specific routes.
Gorges and Trails Along the Chalière
The municipality includes the westernmost part of the Grand Val, which is drained by the Chalière. The Combe Fabet is a gorge-like side valley of the Chalière; the stream runs through the gorge. Its rock walls are 10 to 20 metres high, and the gorge follows a dry streambed. From Perrefitte, the Combe Fabet climbs to the heights of the Jura. The Gorges de Perrefitte begin at the edge of the village in the direction of Souboz. A hiking trail through the Gorges follows the Chalière. In addition, nature trails and wooden steps lead from Perrefitte to the higher pastures above Moutier. The difference is clear for trip planning: in the Combe Fabet, the rock walls and dry streambed take centre stage; in the Gorges, the stream, trails and ascent to the pastures are landmarks.
Hikes Starting and Ending in Perrefitte
The “A travers les Gorges de Perrefitte” hike starts and ends in Perrefitte. It follows the Chalière stream to the hamlet of Plain Fahyn. The stream and the hamlet provide specific landmarks along the route. The “Chemin de Moron” also starts and ends in Perrefitte. Both routes are anchored in the village; “A travers les Gorges de Perrefitte” also follows the Chalière to Plain Fahyn, providing an additional geographical reference. Comparing the hikes gives you both a shared starting and ending point and a specifically named stream and hamlet.
Elevation and Landscape for Other Activities
At Moron, the Jura ridge landscapes reach an elevation of 1,140 m above sea level. The Montagne de Moutier range reaches 1,158 m above sea level, making it the highest point in the municipality. The elevation figures refer to different landscape features: the first is for the Jura ridge landscapes at Moron, and the second for the Montagne de Moutier range. Mountain biking is also among the activities around Perrefitte. The surrounding area has gentle hills and dense forests; its terrain features also include Moron and the Chalière, which flows through the Combe Fabet. This brings together specific hiking routes and an outdoor theme centred on the character of the landscape.
A Former School Building
Another facet of the village can be seen in the building at Perrefitte Sous le Tacon 24. It is a former school building from the late 19th century, built of masonry and designed in the Neoclassical style; a roof turret sits on the roof. A roof turret is a tower-like structure on a roof. This building brings together its former use, period of construction and architectural features. Its history thus complements Perrefitte’s nature and hiking themes with a distinct connection to local history.
