Niederstocken: Hotels, the Hunting Castle and Trails along the Stockhorn Range
Accommodation in Niederstocken
There are various ways to plan a trip to Niederstocken: explore the history of Jagdburg, follow trails along the Stockhorn Range, take the Stocken-Höfen puzzle trail, or visit the Stockental driving centre. The area is also home to a protected raised bog and a named inn. You can tailor your stay to focus on history, outdoor activities, nature, or training.
Jagdburg and local history
Only the impressive ruin walls remain of the former «Burg ze Stoke», later known as Jagdburg. The chapel in Niederstocken also has a specific historical connection: Hans Schütz had it built in 1472. The castle and chapel are two historical points of interest that offer a glimpse into the area’s past.
From Niederstocken, you can reach the Jagdburg ruins on foot in about 30 minutes via the official yellow hiking trail network. You may enter the ruins at your own risk and must observe the safety rules for hiking trails. If you would like a guided tour, the Pro Ruine Jagdburg association offers tours by prior arrangement. This gives you the choice between an independent visit and a guided tour booked in advance.
Hikes and puzzle trail
The hike along the Stockhorn Range passes through Hani, Brodhüsi, and Reutigen before reaching Niederstocken. The route passes through the Augand nature reserve.
The Stocken-Höfen puzzle trail centres on a series of challenges: it features numbered questions and a solution code. The trail is 4.8 kilometres long, has 200 metres of elevation gain, and takes one to two hours. Its distance, elevation gain, and duration provide specific information to help you plan your time. On the puzzle trail, you solve numbered questions; by contrast, the hike along the Stockhorn Range passes through Hani, Brodhüsi, and Reutigen and through the Augand nature reserve.
Another route is the Stockental route (SwitzerlandMobility 362). It follows the northern slope of the Stockhorn Range to Niederstocken. Along the route, you’ll find a shady barbecue and rest area by the water, where you can take a break.
Driving and drone training
The Stockental Driving Centre in Niederstocken covers more than 50,000 square metres and has modern facilities for training with passenger cars, motorcycles, and commercial vehicles weighing less than or more than 3.5 tonnes.
The centre also offers practical drone courses for all skill levels. Its spacious grounds are also suitable for drone training and events.
