For a stay in Hohfluh, local trails and a longer winter hike offer different ways to explore the area. The village’s history includes a wooden church with a Rieger organ, the cultural association and dated residential houses. The trail profiles range from a village walk to a tour through several villages.

Hikes and trails

The signposted Hohfluh village walk starts at the Alte Post information board and includes a barbecue area. It is listed as a moderately difficult hike covering 3.6 km, with 153 metres of ascent and descent each, and an indicated duration of 1 hour and 10 minutes.

The Bsangtenfluh circular trail in Hasliberg-Hohfluh is marked as a loop to a viewpoint. The two trails have different focuses: the village walk includes the starting point and barbecue area, while the viewpoint is the destination of the Bsangtenfluh circular trail.

A longer option is the winter hike rated difficult, from Hasliberg Reuti via Hasliberg Goldern, Hasliberg Wasserwendi and Hasliberg Hohfluh to Brünig-Hasliberg. It is listed as 10.1 km long, with a duration of 3 hours, 363 metres of ascent and 420 metres of descent. Hohfluh lies along the route, which starts in Reuti and ends in Brünig-Hasliberg. The village walk takes 1 hour and 10 minutes, compared with 3 hours for the winter hike. The difficulty ratings also differ: the village walk is moderately difficult, while the winter hike is difficult.

Church and local history

Hohfluh Church was built in 1938–1939. It is a wooden church with room for 70 to 90 people. The Rieger organ was inaugurated in 1969 and is still played today. The church is open daily: from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in summer and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in winter. Opening hours may change, so check them before your visit. The organ’s inauguration took place around three decades after the church was built.

In March 1948, the cultural association was founded at the bishop’s request. Its purpose was to build a chapel in Hasliberg-Hohfluh. The chapel was built in 1975 and officially inaugurated in 1977.

Historic houses along the village trail

The Hasliberg Village Trail is a historic route through the villages of Hasliberg. In Hohfluh, it leads to building No. 32, which was built in 1797 as a large residential house.

Its original central section dates from 1596 and was built by Hans Julmi, a prominent master builder from the canton of Fribourg.
