Heubach offers a range of themes for a stay: hiking and woodland areas, a floodplain landscape associated with the Schwarzwasser, older houses typical of the area, and seasonal leisure activities. For travel planning, it helps to consider hikes, fire pits and seasonal day-trip destinations as separate elements. This lets you shape your stay around nature, architectural history or activities.

Hiking through Rüschegg and its woodland areas

The municipality of Rüschegg and the Rüschegg Tourism Association maintain around 95 kilometres of hiking trails. One specific route is the Vrenelidorf Guggisberg–Rüschegg hike: it is 10.22 kilometres long, takes 3 hours and 25 minutes, and is intended for the April-to-October season. Its destination is Rüschegg Heubach, Post. Along the way, the route passes the Gambach waterfalls, where water cascades over Nagelfluh rock formations.

The Gravel Circuit 14 Upper Hilly Landscape follows a different route. It runs along shady forest roads through the Scheidwald and down to Rüschegg Heubach; after crossing Heubach, it climbs into the Längeneywald. Other hiking trails from Rüschegg Heubach, Hirschhorn and Gambach, as well as from Riffenmatt, lead through the wild woodland areas north of the Egg, including the Längeneywald, Scheidewald and Aegertenwald. The Gantrisch Panorama Trail also runs through the municipality of Rüschegg. These trails therefore provide access to different parts of the municipality and its woodland areas, without every route following the same course.

Floodplain landscape and historic houses

The nationally significant floodplain site, site 316, lists Heubach as a locality; the watercourses Schwarzwasser and Wissenbach are part of this site. The townscape offers another point of interest: older buildings in Heubach display the so-called small-farmhouse type, and some houses with the distinctive Tätsch roof typical of the area have been preserved. For travellers interested in architectural history as well as nature destinations, these house styles add a cultural aspect to the hiking and landscape themes.

Seasonal outings and fire pits

The Eywald open-air swimming pool is located near Heubach at an altitude of 1,050 metres above sea level. It invites visitors to swim, relax and enjoy the surroundings during the summer months; check the latest opening details before your visit. The Restaurant Caroline in Rüschegg Heubach has a 15-hole mini-golf course and a children’s driving track. Operating details may vary, so checking before your visit is recommended.

Access also varies between the fire pits. The Längeneiwald fire pit is accessible via a 1-kilometre hiking trail from the Rüschegg Heubach, Post public transport stop, and is available year-round. The Habstanne fire pit is on the hiking trail from Rüschegg Heubach to Längeney and is also available year-round; check local conditions before setting out. You can reach the Schlatt fire pit from Heubach or Hirschhorn via a forest road with access for service vehicles; bicycles are permitted. The nearest public transport stop, Rüschegg Heubach, Längenboden, is about 2 kilometres away. Check road and public transport conditions before travelling to Schlatt, as they may change.

Accommodation and planning your stay

The Heubach campsite is a nature-oriented family campsite beside a mountain stream. Its facilities include a barbecue area, a playhouse and a children’s playground. The village centre, with shops and a restaurant, is about an 800-metre walk from the campsite; confirm individual services before travelling. The outdoor pool is a summer activity, while the Vrenelidorf Guggisberg–Rüschegg hike is intended for the April-to-October season. This helps you distinguish seasonal activities when planning, without confusing them with accommodation conditions.
