Accommodation in Forst near Längenbühl
Forst near Längenbühl offers a range of things to explore during your stay: a landscape shaped by ice, Lake Dittlig, named routes, and leisure and cultural activities. Whether you want to focus on time by the lake, outdoor exercise, play facilities or history, you’ll find a variety of themes here to help you plan.
Landscape, lake and routes
The drumlin landscape of Forst-Längenbühl is unique in Switzerland. It consists of a group of elliptical hills formed by the Aare Glacier during the last ice age. In the hollows beside the drumlins, blocks of dead ice left behind melted over the centuries, creating marshy ground or lakes such as Lake Dittlig. The hills, hollows and lake are all part of the same landscape shaped by the ice age.
Lake Dittlig is a popular local recreation area among the residents of Forst-Längenbühl. A walk around the lake is a local leisure activity. Two named routes also offer ways to explore the landscape: the Herzroute cycle route network passes directly through Forst-Längenbühl. The Way of St. James runs along the Gürbe between Amsoldingen and Romont and through part of Forst-Längenbühl. This distinguishes a route that passes directly through the village from a section of the Way of St. James that crosses part of it.
Leisure activities at Lake Dittlig and in the village
Swimming in Lake Dittlig is permitted at your own risk. Entering and leaving the water is allowed only at the existing bathing area; there is no lifeguard. Keep these conditions in mind when planning a day of swimming. If you’d rather experience the lake on foot, the circular walk offers another way to spend time in this recreation area.
A meeting place with a barbecue area is open to both local residents and visitors. Facilities include a fire pit with firewood, a pétanque court, a bocce court and a table tennis table. Toilets and water are available in the multi-purpose hall. The site offers a range of options for spending time together or enjoying outdoor activities; the toilets and water mentioned are located in the hall.
The Erlebnisland Grizzlybär has an animal park with around 100 animals from more than ten species. Its large outdoor playground includes a play tower, a slide, swings and a zip line. The 18-hole mini-golf course also offers views of Lake Dittlig. Each of the three attractions has a different focus: meeting animals, outdoor play and a round of mini golf with a lake view.
The mill and history
Dittlig Mill offers a visitor experience centered on grain, flour and bread. Grain has been milled there for more than two centuries. From the late 18th century well into the 19th century, the oldest part of the building housed both a mill and a bakery. Cultural events are held regularly at Dittlig Mill. If an event is the reason for your visit, check the specific dates in advance.
Roman finds are also part of the municipality’s history. Roman foundation walls came to light in Steinried in 1926. Remains of a Roman estate with a bathhouse were discovered in Seihenried; a bronze coin bearing the likeness of Emperor Trajan was also found there. In Längenbühl, the residential building at no. 45b, Schlösschen, is listed as a monument of regional significance in the provisional edition of the 2012 inventory.
