Thierachern combines historic buildings, trails and a pump track. If you are looking for a hotel in Thierachern, first consider what you would like to focus on during your stay: local history, hiking or activities on wheels. The town’s features and activities offer different focal points and give you concrete starting points when choosing your destination.

History and townscape

The current form of the Reformed Church of Thierachern dates from the early 18th century. It is designed as a hall with a polygonal apse and round-arched windows. Paintings featuring fragments of a biblical cycle are located on the north wall of the nave. The church is first mentioned in a document from the Diocese of Lausanne.

The mill complex in Thierachern comprises mill buildings, granaries, a washhouse, a grand mill barn and three farmhouses. In the area around the Egg estate, the complex is arranged around a triangular square, with the Löwen inn forming its eastern side. The church, mill complex and square thus represent different architectural features: a hall church, a group of mill and farm buildings, and a triangularly arranged square.

Another part of the townscape is the eastern section of Dorfstrasse. Over a short stretch, it curves along the open Glütschbach stream and has been preserved in its original state. The road layout and the buildings therefore tell different stories about Thierachern’s architectural character.

Trails and activities

The Thierachern experience trail has seven stations, including the erratic boulder known as «Räbi». One named hiking route is the «Thun-West, Uebeschisee-Tangente»: it passes through Thierachern-Egg and can be reached by train and bus. This distinction matters for finding your way: the experience trail focuses on individual stations, while the tangent is a hiking route with a named course.

The Thierachern pump track is designed for mountain bikes, BMX bikes, scooters and skateboards. Gentle jumps and curves shape its design, and it is considered rideable for all skill levels. You can choose your activity based on the equipment you prefer, while the experience trail and tangent offer options for those interested in exploring on foot.

According to the municipal website, accessed in August 2026, a public, covered barbecue area was available in MĂĽlimatt, directly next to the pump track. According to the same municipal website, the MĂĽlimatt sports field could be used outside the area reserved for barbecuing. If you plan to use the facilities, check the current usage information before your visit.

Landscape and nature

Thierachern’s townscape includes important undeveloped green spaces that offer views of the open countryside. The history of the lower part of the village is also linked to water: after the Kander was diverted into Lake Thun through the cut in Strättlighügel, the regular devastation caused by water and debris in the lower village came to an end. The change in the watercourse is therefore part of the local history.

The natural conservation values of the Thierachern Allmend include rare forest communities. Conservation objectives include pine forest, orchid beech forest and alder-ash forest. These three forest types give Thierachern’s nature offering a concrete focus; they complement the views of the open countryside with the diversity of its forest communities.

Planning your stay

To travel from Thun, take PostBus route 50 to the Thierachern, Wahlen stop. From there, it is about a five-minute walk. The «Thun-West, Uebeschisee-Tangente» hiking route can be reached by train and bus. These details offer different starting points for your planning: a bus connection to a named stop and the stated accessibility of the hiking route.

Another specific address in the village is Feller's Höfli, a farm shop at Höfli 302 in Thierachern. In addition to historic buildings, trails and nature, you can therefore find a local point of interest and transport information to help you plan your stay.
