Corbières Fr offers access to Lac de La Gruyère and the Fribourg Pre-Alps. Marked hiking trails and a historic village setting round out the picture. If you’re looking for a hotel for your trip, you can start by deciding whether the lakeshore, hiking or architectural history will be the focus of your days.

By the lake: beach and activities

Below the church in Corbières is La Montagnetta beach. It has picnic tables and barbecue areas; these facilities may be seasonal. If you plan to use them, check whether they are available before your visit.

Aventure Gruyère has a base in Corbières and rents canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and boats on Lac de La Gruyère. The provider also offers treasure hunts and photo rallies on the lake. Rental and activity offerings may change, so check in advance what is available for your travel dates.

Hiking and choosing a route

The Corbières–Solitou hiking route runs from the village center to the summit of Le Solitou and is marked with yellow directional signs. Trail conditions can vary seasonally; check them before setting out. From Le Solitou, the route heads north to La Berra station. Heading south, it passes via Vanil des Cours to Mont Bifé. The summit is therefore both a destination on the marked route and a starting point for these two directions.

Another hiking option is the Sentier du Lac de La Gruyère: the 44-kilometer trail follows the lakeshore from Rossens via La Roche and Hauteville to Corbières. Along the way, farms and poyas typical of La Gruyère shape the landscape. The full trail is officially open to the public, except for the section between Le Bry and Rossens. Check seasonal access notices before setting off.

There is also a specific route note for mountain biking: on the VTT tour toward La Berra, the descent to Corbières is wet and difficult in places. Take these conditions into account when planning your ride; they may vary.

Village setting and architectural history

Château de Corbières was built at its present location in the early 14th century and remodeled in 1560. It is still in very good condition and is among the cultural heritage sites protected by the canton. The parish church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativité has a choir and nave dating from the 13th or 14th century, as well as a bell-tower porch from 1789.

The historic center of Corbières is also among the sites of national importance whose character is to be preserved. The present concrete Pont de Corbières was built in 1931. Together, the château, church and bridge represent building periods from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, giving local history several distinct points of reference.

Getting there and planning your visit

There is a free parking lot in the center of Corbières at Chemin du Pré-du-Crêt 7, 1647 Corbières. It has carpool spaces and two electric-car charging stations. As charging infrastructure can change, check the current situation before traveling if you plan to use a charging station. Corbières is also served by buses operated by Fribourg public transport (TPF); check the right connection and timetable before your trip.

Corbifest is a two-day festival that the Jeunesse de Corbières usually holds every year in early April at the multipurpose hall. If you want to time your trip to coincide with the festival, compare the usual timing with the specific event dates.
