Accommodation in La Tour-De-Trême
La Tour-De-Trême is a district of the municipality of Bulle in the canton of Fribourg, southeast of Bulle in the direction of the Intyamon valley. The Trême is the river that separates La Tour-De-Trême from Bulle and is a tributary of the Sarine. The district lies on the southern side of the Trême’s alluvial fan, at the northern foot of the Moléson massif and in the Bulle basin. This gives you several themes to choose from when planning your trip: local history, cultural events and time in the Bois de Bouleyres forest.
Traces from different eras
Archaeological finds point to prehistoric settlement in the area. They date from the Mesolithic, the Early and Late Bronze Age, and the Hallstatt period. In the Middle Ages, the settlement was fortified. The Counts of Gruyère founded it beside a castle, which was destroyed in 1349. These early traces and the later town centre tell different chapters of the area’s history, without needing to be treated as a single, continuous period of settlement.
The square historic tower of La Tour-De-Trême is no more than 13 metres high to the roof; its walls are almost two metres thick on average. Together with a few houses dating from the 16th century, it is one of the few old structures in the area to have survived. A clock was installed on the tower in 1683 and can be reached via an internal wooden staircase. Its dimensions, design and this particular feature give the tower a distinctive place in the local landscape.
Churches and cultural events
The first chapel in La Tour-De-Trême was built in 1439. On 8 January 1603, the Saint-Denis chapel became the parish church of the area. The Saint-Joseph church stands in the centre and was consecrated on 13 September 1876. It is used for concerts, rehearsals and performances. If you would like to combine your visit with an event, check the specific dates.
The Tour historique in La Tour-De-Trême is part of the Trace-Ecart exhibition network. Trace-Ecart venues host between three and five exhibitions each year; check the relevant programme for current dates. The Salle CO2 also hosts cultural events: its cultural season includes more than twenty events and is complemented by an additional programme outside the season. Programme details may change, so it is a good idea to check event dates before your visit.
The Salle CO2 has 758 seats: 527 in the stalls and 231 in the gallery. Its car park has 250 spaces and can be reached via the H189. These details help you get a sense of the venue; whether a particular date suits your trip depends on the current programme.
Bois de Bouleyres: forest and trails
The Bois de Bouleyres forest lies on rolling terrain at an altitude of between 700 and 780 metres and is rich in animal and plant life. It has a Finnish-style running track as well as measured routes for runners and walkers. The forest also offers opportunities for walking, relaxing, playing and sports. There are several ways to spend your time here, without assuming that any particular route or activity suits all visitors.
A historic section of trail also passes through the forest: the local stretch between La Tuilière and the Marches stop is of national importance. It forms part of the Route des Fromages, which connected Charmey with Bulle from the 16th to the 18th century. For those interested in local and regional history, this offers a way to relate a specific stretch of trail to a historic connection between the two places.
Plan a stay to suit your interests
Those primarily interested in history can centre their plans around the tower, churches and medieval settlement. For cultural events, the Saint-Joseph church, Trace-Ecart and the Salle CO2 are relevant venues; for time outdoors, consider the activities described in the Bois de Bouleyres. Products from the Le Lity alpine chalet are available locally or from the self-service shop at the Ferme des Granges in La Tour-De-Trême. Check availability before your visit. These different options offer practical guidance for planning a stay in La Tour-De-Trême to suit your interests.
